Bruno Fernandes Matches Henry, De Bruyne’s Premier League Assist Record

Bruno Fernandes has matched the Premier League single-season assist record of 20, previously held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne. He achieved this milestone by setting up Bryan Mbeumo’s goal in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest. The assist came in the 75th minute, helping United secure third place and a Champions League spot. Fernandes still has one game left against Brighton to potentially break the record.

Bruno Fernandes levels Henry, De Bruyne's Premier League assists record

Manchester, May 18

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes levelled with icons like Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne for the most assists during a Premier League season.

During his side's final Premier League game at home against Nottingham Forest, Bruno got to the milestone after setting up Bryan Mbeumo's 75th-minute strike, which brought the scoreline to 3-1 in United's favour, who won by 3-2 to stay at third spot in the points tally, having already secured their UEFA Champions League slot.

With this assist, he has matched Henry's 20 assists for Arsenal back in the 2002-03 season and Kevin's 20 assists for Manchester City in 2019/20.

Speaking to Sky Sports as quoted by the Premier League website, Bruno said, "Everyone knew that it was important that I could get another assist at least. They (my teammates) have been trying everything that they can to score from my passes."

"There were probably moments today that I should have passed instead of shot, but I am very happy for this assist," he added.

The United veteran came close to breaching past Henry and Bruyne when he created a chance for Diogo Dalot in the stoppage time, but it hit the goal post. However, but with a match against Brighton and Hove Albion away from home still remaining, he has a chance to break the record on Sunday.

Bruno's been underrated for too long. 20 assists in a season is insane—especially in a team that's not always clicking. As someone who watches EPL regularly here in Bangalore, I think he's definitely up there with the best. Hope he smashes the record on Sunday!

Great achievement no doubt, but let's be honest—Henry's 20 assists came in a different era of football, when defending was much tougher. Still, Bruno has been phenomenal for United this season. Would love to see an Indian player reach such heights in the EPL someday! 🙏⚽

Bruno is a machine! His work rate and creativity are unmatched. Matching Henry and De Bruyne is huge—those two are legends. As an Indian fan who stays up late to watch United play, I'm thrilled. Hope he gets that record against Brighton! Chalo! 💪🇮🇳

Impressive stat, but I think people overlook how much United's system revolves around Bruno. He's a great player, yes, but sometimes his selfishness with shots hurts the team. Still, 20 assists is historic. Well deserved recognition.
