Los Angeles, Jan 9

Pop icon Britney Spears has shared that she wanted to be the headliner at a concert at Copacabana Beach.

The organisers of Rio de Janeiro's biggest free show are keen to bring the pop idol to Brazil, reports 'Female First UK'.

When quizzed on the speculation that the Toxic hitmaker is circling a Copacabana performance, organisers reportedly said "we still believe in it".

As per 'Female First UK', the 44-year-old singer hasn't performed live since the conclusion of her Piece of Me Tour in 2018. If she does the Rio gig, she would follow in the footsteps of Lady Gaga, who played to a record-breaking audience of around 2.5 million in May 2025, and Madonna. Lady Gaga's two-hour show was paid for by the city of Rio de Janeiro in an effort to boost the local economy with around 500,000 tourists reported to have travelled to the city in order to attend the concert.

It was the biggest concert of Lady Gaga's career and her first performance in Brazil since 2012. The Rio rumour comes as Britney vowed to "never perform in the US again".

The singer opened up about her plans in a post on Instagram in which she revealed she was sending a piano to one of her sons and vowed never to perform on home soil again due to "extremely sensitive reasons", but she hopes to return to the stage to entertain fans in the UK and Australia.

In her post, Britney said, "Sending this piano to my son this year. Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it's embarrassing sometimes but I walked through the fire to save my life. I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son. in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon".

Free concert for the public, funded by the city to boost tourism... that's actually a smart economic move. Our Indian cities hosting big sports or music events could learn from this model. Hope it works out for Rio and for Britney!

Her comment about dancing on IG to heal is so relatable. Sometimes you just have to move to feel better. Good for her for focusing on her well-being and her family. The performance with her son sounds lovely. Wishing her all the best.

While I support her personal journey, I do wish she'd reconsider performing in the US for her long-time American fans. It's a bit sad that such a major part of her career might be closed off. But her health and happiness come first, of course.

Copacabana is iconic! If she pulls this off, it'll be legendary. "Toxic" on a Brazilian beach with millions? That's a vibe. Hope she includes some Asian tour dates too—we'd love to see her perform live out here!
