Parganas, May 24: With his victory near certain in the repoll for the Falta assembly constituency in West Bengal, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda on Sunday thanked the people of the constituency for their support.

Debangshu Panda told ANI that people of Falta have showered their blessings on the BJP in the constituency, seen as a stronghold of Trinamool Congress.

"Eighteen rounds of counting have been done, and we are leading by a margin of 92,000. Three rounds are remaining...I want to thank the people of Falta," he said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate is in second place by a distant margin and Abdur Razzak Molla of Congress is in third position.

Jahangir Khan of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) had announced his withdrawal from the contest before the repoll but his name is there among the candidates.

Election Commission had ordered a repoll in Falta following "irregularities" during the polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections. The repoll was held on May 21.

The BJP won a remarkable 207 seats in the polls and has formed its first government in the state with Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister.

I'm happy for BJP's victory, but we must question why repoll was needed in the first place. The original polling process had "irregularities" - this is a red flag for our democratic system. We need EVM audits, VVPAT checks, and transparent processes everywhere, not just in high-profile seats. A win should be clean, not a repeat match.

Incredible mandate! From being a fringe player in Bengal to winning 207 seats and now leading by 92K in a bypoll - the transformation under Suvendu babu is remarkable. Looking forward to seeing Bengal develop under a double-engine government. The didi magic is finally wearing off. 👏

Interesting that the TMC candidate "withdrew" but his name was still on the ballot. This confusion might have helped BJP by splitting votes among anti-BJP voters. Having said that, 92,000 is a thumping mandate - no amount of confusion explains that margin. The people have spoken clearly for change in Falta.

As someone who follows Indian politics from abroad, this is fascinating. The CPI(M) in second place and Congress in third shows the Left and Congress are irrelevant in Bengal now. It's a direct BJP vs TMC contest across the state. If this trend continues, 2026 assembly elections will be a blockbuster. 🤔

I'm a neutral observer, but this margin is eye-catching. However, I worry about the BJP's dominance - in a democracy, we need a strong opposition. TMC needs to introspect why they lost Falta
