New Delhi, June 24

Bharat Dynamics has won an order worth Rs 1,347.71 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the manufacture of military hardware, including helicopter-mounted missile launchers, the defence PSU informed the stock exchanges on Wednesday.

The order includes Helina Launchers and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) worth Rs 1,109.37 crore and Counter Measures Dispensing System LRUs valued at Rs 238.34 crore.

The contract will be executed in 24 to 60 months, Bharat Dynamics said in its filing with the stock exchanges.

Helina (Helicopter-launched NAG) is an indigenous, third-generation "fire-and-forget" anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) developed by India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The Helina Launchers are the specialised, twin-tube stub-wing mounts equipped on Indian military helicopters, such as the HAL Rudra and HAL Prachand, to deploy these missiles against heavily armoured enemy targets.

Counter Measures Dispensing System LRUs (Line Replaceable Units) are the modular, standardised hardware components that make up an aircraft's defensive self-protection suite. Their primary function is to automatically or manually dispense chaff and flares to confuse and defeat incoming radar-guided or infrared-seeking missiles aimed at the helicopters.

Bharat Dynamics primarily produces missiles and torpedoes in collaboration with the DRDO.

In Q4FY26, Bharat Dynamics reported a 58.5 per cent drop in net profit at Rs 113 crore in the Q4FY26 against Rs 273 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The defence PSU's revenue declined 73 per cent to Rs 480 crore for the quarter ended on March 31, 2026, from Rs 1,777 crore in the same period last year. In terms of operations, EBITDA dipped 81.5 per cent to Rs 55.2 crore for the quarter under review against Rs 299 crore in Q4FY25. EBITDA margin remained at 11.5 per cent against 16.8 per cent in the January to March quarter of the preceding fiscal year.

Meanwhile, HAL's net profit surged 5.5 per cent to Rs 4,196 crore in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025-26. The net profit stood at Rs 3,977 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. Revenue rose 1.8 per cent to Rs 13, 942 crore in Q4FY26 from Rs 13,700 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Great to see companies like BDL getting such contracts. Counter-measures systems are crucial for helicopter survivability, so this is a well-rounded order. But can we talk about the profit drop? 58.5% decline in net profit and 73% drop in revenue is concerning. The order book may be good, but financial discipline and execution are key for a PSU. Let's hope this is a cyclical issue, not a structural one.

Rs 1,348 crore order is massive! Helina launchers are the backbone for the Rudra and Prachand helicopters. The indigenous angle is the best part - we're reducing import dependency. 👏 Also nice to see HAL's profit growing. Both these PSUs are doing their bit for self-reliance. Har Ghar Tiranga indeed! 🇮🇳

The details are impressive. Helina launchers worth Rs 1,109 crore and counter-measures systems for Rs 238 crore. This is a well-planned package for our attack helicopters. The 24 to 60-month timeline is long but understandable given the complexity. Defence production is a long game. But BDL needs to work on its quarterly performance - the numbers for Q4FY26 were disappointing. Hopefully, this order will help turn things around.

This is what Atmanirbhar Bharat looks like. DRDO-developed Helina, manufactured by BDL, for HAL's helicopters. The ecosystem is finally maturing. But the profit dip is a reality check - we need better project management and cost control. Still, positive news for the defence sector. Onwards and upwards! 🚀
