Guwahati, May 27

The Red Shield Division under the Indian Army's Spear Corps organised an Agniveer Preparedness Program in Assam's Charaideo district on Wednesday to motivate and mentor local youth aspiring to join the armed forces, officials said.

The programme was conducted at Borhat in collaboration with the district administration and witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 200 students, including 56 girls, officials added.

The initiative was aimed at guiding aspiring candidates on various aspects of recruitment under the Agniveer scheme, including physical fitness, written examination preparation and the overall selection process for entry into the Indian Army.

During the event, Army personnel interacted with students and explained the physical standards, endurance requirements and examination patterns necessary for Agniveer recruitment.

Participants were also briefed on the importance of discipline, dedication, leadership qualities and mental preparedness required for a successful career in the armed forces.

Officials said the programme provided students with an opportunity to better understand the recruitment process and the level of preparation needed to compete effectively.

Special emphasis was laid on encouraging youth from rural and remote areas to explore opportunities in national service and contribute towards nation-building through the armed forces.

The participation of a significant number of girls in the programme was also seen as a positive sign of growing interest among young women in pursuing careers in defence services.

According to Army officials, the outreach initiative forms part of the Indian Army's continuing efforts to engage with local communities and inspire the younger generation across the Northeast.

"The students were sensitised to the importance of discipline, dedication and leadership qualities, while encouraging them to pursue opportunities for service to the nation through the Armed Forces," an official statement said.

The initiative was appreciated by the district administration and members of the local community for promoting youth empowerment and creating awareness about career opportunities in the Army.

Officials added that such programmes also help strengthen civil-military relations and encourage greater participation of local youth in national service.

The Indian Army has been organising similar outreach and awareness initiatives in several districts of the region to guide and mentor aspiring candidates preparing for defence recruitment.

Good initiative but I wish the government would also focus on creating more civilian job opportunities in the Northeast. Not everyone can or wants to join the armed forces. The Agniveer scheme has its pros and cons - the short tenure and no pension is a concern for many families. Still, respect to the Army for doing this outreach.

So proud to see 56 girls participating! 🎉 This shows how times are changing in the Northeast. My sister is in college and she's also considering defence services after seeing such programs. The Army is doing a commendable job in motivating youth from remote areas. Jai Hind!

As someone who works in recruitment in the US, I find this community engagement approach very impressive. The Indian Army's focus on rural youth and women is something we could learn from. Building awareness at the grassroots level is key to finding motivated candidates. Great work!

Excellent initiative! But I hope they're also providing proper guidance on the written exams and physical tests. Many students from government schools in rural areas don't have access to coaching. The Army should consider partnering with local colleges for preparatory classes. Still, better outreach than what we had 10 years ago. Baby steps. 👍

This is fantastic community engagement. The Red Shield Division clearly understands that investing in youth creates a stronger, more motivated force. I particularly appreciate the emphasis on discipline and leadership - qualities that benefit not just the military but society as a whole. The Northeast has traditionally produced some of India's finest soldiers.
