New Delhi, May 29

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila on Friday met with the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, at the residence of Congress Parliamentary chairperson Sonia Gandhi's residence in the national capital.

The meeting focused on plans to strengthen Congress operations in Andhra Pradesh.

In an 'X' post, Sharmila said, "Met with AICC top leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, at his 10 Janpath residence in Delhi today. We discussed various aspects regarding the strengthening of the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh and received several suggestions and guidance from him."

Currently, Congress has no MLAs in Andhra Pradesh, as has been the case since 2009. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in the Centre, leads in the 175-member assembly, having secured an absolute majority of 135 seats in the 2024 elections.

Before meeting with YS Sharmila, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar amid the cabinet shuffle in the state.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today shared a warm hug with Rahul Gandhi during a meeting held at the residence of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in the national capital.

The meeting comes a day after Siddaramaiah tendered his resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister following directions from the Congress high command, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar likely to succeed him as the next Chief Minister of the state.

Concluding his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah also met Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka government today also issued an official gazette notification stating that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has accepted Siddaramaiah's resignation under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him with immediate effect.

Congress needs a miracle in AP. Zero MLAs since 2009 shows how far they've fallen. But if anyone can rebuild, maybe Sharmila with her family legacy can start from grassroots. Just don't rely only on Delhi darbar meetings. Arre yaar, ground level work is key!

Honestly, Congress should focus on states where they actually have a chance instead of chasing lost causes. AP is TDP and YSRCP territory now. But I admire Sharmila's determination - she's not giving up despite the odds. 🙏

It's strange how Congress keeps trying to revive in states where they've been wiped out, while neglecting strongholds like Karnataka where they just had a messy cabinet shuffle. Leadership needs better prioritisation. Just my honest opinion.

Finally some movement in AP Congress! Sharmila meeting Rahul is good optics. But words are cheap - they need candidates, workers, and a vision that resonates with Telugu people. Chandrababu and Jagan have deep roots. Congress needs to find a unique selling point. 🌟

The meeting itself is fine, but more interesting is the Karnataka drama happening simultaneously. Siddaramaiah resigning, Shivakumar likely taking over - that's where real power play is. Sharmila's AP revival seems like a side project while high command manages bigger fires. 🤔
