"I think we should say rest in peace, RIP to people who are calling films propaganda. - Anupam Kher"

Mumbai, April 1

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has weighed in on the ongoing debate around the recently released Dhurandhar movie franchise being labelled as "propaganda,".

He has also said RIP to those calling the movie as a propaganda movie.

The actor urges audiences and critics alike to shift focus towards celebrating cinema rather than criticising it.

Speaking to IANS and other media present at a recent event, the actor dismissed such criticism, stating that too much importance is being given to those making these claims.

He said, "I think we should say rest in peace, RIP to people who are calling films propaganda. We are putting too much energy into them. They are redundant, they are irrelevant."

Kher further emphasised that the success of a film ultimately lies in the hands of the audience, and not in the narratives built around it.

He called for recognition of films that have resonated with viewers, and stated that would be a better practice rather than engaging with detractors.

"Let's celebrate the success of The Kashmir Files, let's celebrate the success of *Durandar*. People are not idiots that they will go for a 12 o'clock show and make it full house. People go to watch a film because they like it," he added.

The actor's remarks come amid continuing conversations in the film industry about the intent and interpretation of Dhurandhar directed by Aditya Dhar.

However, Kher further also maintained that audiences are smart and wise enough to make their own choices, reinforcing his belief that box office success is a reflection of genuine public interest.

"Let's celebrate the success of Kashmir Files, let's celebrate the success of Dhurandhar. People are not idiots that they are going to see a twelve o'clock show, and that too housefull. People go to see the film, because they like it," Kher further said.

The first instalment released in December and Dhurandhar 2 released on the 19th of March.

The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Rakesh Bedi and others.

While I agree that audiences are smart, dismissing all criticism as "redundant" isn't fair. Cinema can be both celebrated and critically examined. A healthy debate about a film's themes is part of a vibrant film culture, no?

Saw both parts with my family. Pure paisa vasool entertainment! Great action, good story. Sometimes a movie is just a movie, yaar. Not everything needs a deep political analysis. Kudos to the team for the success.

The success of films like The Kashmir Files and now Dhurandhar shows a shift in what the Indian audience wants to see. Stories that resonate with our pride and history. Critics calling it propaganda just can't handle this change.

I respect Anupam Kher sir, but saying "RIP" to differing opinions feels a bit harsh. Everyone has a right to their view. That said, I loved Dhurandhar 2! Madhavan was superb. 👏

Interesting perspective. In the end, the audience's choice is the ultimate verdict. If a film fills theaters, it's clearly doing something right, regardless of the noise around it.
