"3.6 crore people of Kerala are yearning for change. - Mallikarjun Kharge"

New Delhi, January 23

Ahead of the much-anticipated Kerala assembly elections, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday met senior party leaders from the state in the national capital.

Kharge was also accompanied by Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi and shared the visuals of the meeting on his official 'X' handle. He wrote that Kerala people are "yearning for change", mentioning his party, along with the United Democratic Front alliance, is determined to ensure progressive, development-oriented, welfare-based governance in the state.

"3.6 crore people of Kerala are yearning for change. The Congress party, along with our partners in the UDF are determined to ensure progressive, development-oriented, welfare-based governance in the state. An important preparatory meeting with @INCKerala leaders was held for the forthcoming Assembly elections," Kharge wrote on 'X'.

Kerala is set to hold elections in the first half of 2026, during which the United Democratic Front has been out of power for the past 10 years.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi, in his address in the capital city of Kerala, lauded the historic BJP victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, saying it marks the end of decades of neglect by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and United Democratic Front (UDF) and the beginning of a new era of development and good governance.

PM Modi also criticised the two political fronts for perpetuating corruption and mismanagement in the State.

"Both the LDF and UDF have, in various ways, driven Kerala into a cycle of corruption, mismanagement, and appeasement politics. Though they may use different flags and symbols, their underlying political approach and agendas are virtually identical: rampant corruption, a lack of accountability, and the promotion of divisive communalism. Both parties are well aware that their opportunity to govern resurfaces every five years, yet the core issues remain unaddressed," PM Modi said in his address.

"For decades, both the LDF and UDF have neglected Thiruvananthapuram, depriving the city of basic facilities and infrastructure. The Left and the Congress have consistently failed to address the needs of our people. However, our BJP team has already begun working towards a developed Thiruvananthapuram. To the people of this city, I say: have faith- the change that has long been overdue is finally on its way," he added.

As a Keralite, I feel both LDF and UDF have failed us on many fronts. Infrastructure is crumbling and job creation is poor. PM Modi's point about the cycle of corruption rings true. Maybe a strong third front is what we need? 🤔

Kharge ji is right about the yearning for change. The current government's handling of financial issues has been disappointing. Hoping Congress and UDF come back with a strong, clean, and development-focused agenda. Kerala's potential is huge!

It's all political talk before elections. Every party says the same things. We need action on the ground - better roads, healthcare, and controlling price rise. That's what matters to my family. 🙏

Interesting to see the national dynamics play out in a state election. The BJP making inroads in Kerala is a significant shift. The 2026 polls will be a three-way fight, which could be healthy for democracy.

The focus should be on welfare and development, not on blaming each other. As a teacher, I see how politics affects education funding and policies. Hope whichever party comes next prioritizes our children's future.
