133 Eco Task Force observes International Day of Forests in Kufri, Mandi; organises plantation drives
Mandi, March 22
The 133 Eco Task Force observed the International Day of Forests on March 21, with a series of programs organised across Kufri, Karsog, Tattapani, and Aut in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.
The events were conducted in collaboration with local senior secondary schools, Mahila Mandals, and the Industrial Training Institute, Sunni.
Students, teachers, Mahila Mandal members, and local residents actively participated alongside unit officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and jawans in symbolic plantation drives and awareness campaigns.
These initiatives emphasised the significance of forests in maintaining environmental balance and promoting sustainable development.
Earlier on Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of International Day of Forests, planted a sapling and worshipped at the Mansi Ganga lake.
She also offered prayers at the Danghati Temple in Mathura and undertook the sacred Govardhan parikrama.
"President Droupadi Murmu had darshan and performed aarti at the Danghati Temple in Mathura and undertook the sacred Govardhan Parikrama. During her Parikrama, she planted a sapling on the occasion of International Day of Forests. The President also offered prayers at the sacred lake Mansi Ganga," the X post from Rashtrapati Bhavan wrote.

Great to see the Eco Task Force and local communities working together. But we must ensure these saplings are actually nurtured and survive. Too often, plantation drives are just photo-ops. Hope there's a proper follow-up plan.
Jai Hind! Salute to our jawans of the Eco Task Force for this noble work. Protecting our environment is a national duty. Also heartening to see our Hon'ble President leading by example with her own plantation.
The integration of environmental action with local institutions like the ITI is very smart. Vocational training institutes can play a huge role in sustainable development. Hope they also discussed indigenous tree species suited for the region.
Wonderful news from Mandi district. When the community, armed forces, and students come together, real change happens. The mention of President Murmu's spiritual and environmental actions is also beautifully symbolic. Our culture has always revered nature.
As someone from Himachal, I'm so happy to read this. Our forests are under constant threat from illegal logging and construction. Every tree planted is a step towards securing our water sources and preventing landslides. More power to the Mahila Mandal members involved!
