Telecom tower firms seek more relief, priority lending
New Delhi, June 16 : The telecom tower industry has urged the Finance Ministry to allow accelerated depreciation rate of 65 per cent on batteries, 20 per cent funding through External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) for the working capital and inclusion of telecom towers in the priority sector for lending by banks.
Trai gives telcos Sept 30 deadline for revised MNP norms
New Delhi, June 13 : Telecom regulator Trai has extended, by over three months to September 30, the timeline for implementation of revised Mobile Number Portability (MNP) norms, providing relief to operators who had cited various reasons including significant changes in their network and IT elements for more time.
Telecom panel again defers decision on telcos' penalty
New Delhi, June 13 : The Digital Communications Commissions, the inter-ministerial panel of the Telecom Ministry which is also its highest decision-making authority, has deferred a decision on imposing penalty on Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular for not providing adequate inter-connection to Reliance Jio during its network trial time in 2016.
Cut down on contract labour: BSNL to circles
New Delhi, June 9 : State run BSNL, which is trying to overcome liquidity crunch and financial squeeze, has undertaken fresh measures to cut avoidable expenditures on contract labour and do a cost-benefit analysis of the legacy landline and broadband exchanges as well as towers to achieve network optimisation.
Indians to consume more data by 2022: Study

TRAI recommends creation of fund for telecom R and D
New Delhi, Aug 3 : The Telecom Regulatory Autority of India (TRAI) on Friday pitched for the creation of a Telecom Research and Development Fund (TRDF) with an initial corpus of Rs 1,000 crore to promote the indigenous telecom equipment manufacturing sector.
Telephone subscribers increased by 2.24pc in March
New Delhi, May 23 : The number of telephone subscribers in India rose from 1,179.83 million at the end of February to 1,206.22 million at the end of March, a monthly growth rate of 2.24 per cent, data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said on Wednesday.
