Potato Wadai Recipe


• 4 Potatoes

• 3 onions

• 2 cups bengal gram flour

• 8 green chillies

• A small piece ginger

• 4 cloves garlic

• 1 cup grated coconut

• Little sugar to taste

• Juice of one lime

• 1 bunch coriander leaves

• Oil for deep frying

• 1 tsp mustard seeds

• ½ tsp turmeric powder

• ½ tsp red chili powder

• 1 tsp cumin seeds

• A pinch of baking soda

• Salt to taste


• Boil potatoes, peel outer skin and slightly mash.

• Grind green chillies, garlic and ginger to a fine paste.

• Mix potato, onions, ginger and garlic chili paste, coriander leaves, sugar, lime juice and salt to taste.

• Add mustard seeds in heated oil and when they splutter, add to the potato mixture along with coriander leaves.

• Prepare smooth batter with the bengal gram flour, salt to taste, cumin seeds, red chili powder and turmeric powder.

• Add a teaspoon of hot oil when making the batter.

• Divide the potato mixture into equal sized round balls.

• Dip each ball in the batter and deep fry in heated oil till it becomes golden brown in color.
