New Delhi, Feb 25 : With the admission of 32,455 students in 2018 under the economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged group (DG) category, the private unaided schools have seen three times more admission compared with schools under the three municipal bodies.
According to Delhi government's Outcome Budget for 2018-19, up to December 31, tabled in the Assembly on Monday by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, the EWS/DG admissions in private schools have witnessed a 240 per cent increase since 2015-16.

"The number of admissions in private schools as per Section 12 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act has witnessed 240 per cent increase since 2015-16," said Sisodia.

"32,455 EWS/DG category students have been admitted to private unaided schools through online lottery under the RTE Act against 25,178 during 2017-18 and around 20,000 in 2016-17," he said.

According to the Outcome Budget, 76 per cent seats have been filled in Delhi schools in 2018, almost three times than schools under three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD).

Against the target of introducing nursery classes in 305 schools in 2018-19, till December the Delhi government introduced the same in 301 schools run by it and 95 per cent seats were filled by December, Sisodia said.

"The campaign "Mission Buniyad" was attended by 3.30 lakh students during summer vacations and it helped improve the percentage of students who could read textbooks from 48 per cent to 66 per cent, and students who could solve a grade level mathematics problem from 54 per cent to 73 per cent," he said.

Sisodia, who also hold the portfolio of education, said 24,000 students were imparted training in spoken English and 33,292 government school teachers have been provided tablets.
