Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami outlines short, medium, and long-term plans to ease tourist traffic jams, including bypasses and elevated roads.

"We are working on three types of plans so tourists do not get stuck in long traffic jams—short-term, medium-term, and long-term schemes. — CM Pushkar Singh Dhami"

Dehradun, June 13

With tourist footfall increasing in the state, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday said the administration is actively working on measures to prevent visitors from getting caught in long traffic jams.

Speaking to mediapersons, Chief Minister Dhami said that the government is working on three types of plans--short-term, medium-term, and long-term. He added that assistance from the central government would be sought if required.

"... We are also working on three types of plans so tourists do not get stuck in long traffic jams--short-term, medium-term, and long-term schemes. We are constructing bypasses. A proposal to construct elevated roads at two places in Dehradun has been put forward. The problem of Kainchi Dham is also becoming a big problem because the number of tourists there is rising. We are working on that too. Wherever necessary, we will seek the Indian government's cooperation too... We have reviewed the helicopter service before the rains. This service will run regularly in the coming season," he told mediapersons.

Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday observed a two-minute silence for the victims of the ill-fated AI-171 plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad.

The CM also expressed condolences to the family members of the deceased.

Speaking to the reporters, he said, "...I express my condolences to those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to those injured... May God give strength to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident...."

Dhami expressed grief over the untimely demise of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who lost his life in the tragic Air India Flight crash.

Describing Rupani as "a very humble politician", he said, "...Vijay Rupani was a very humble politician." He made a lot of contributions to Gujarat and the nation..."

A total of 241 people onboard the Boeing 787-8, Air India flight 171, including 12 crew members, have died in the deadly Ahmedabad plane crash, Air India confirmed post-midnight on Friday.

Finally some action on Uttarakhand's traffic nightmare! Every year during Char Dham yatra, we see pilgrims suffering in 10-hour jams. Hope the elevated roads and bypasses come up soon. 🙏 The helicopter service expansion is a smart move for hilly areas.

Good intentions but implementation is key. Last year's promises about Rishikesh traffic management didn't fully materialize. Hope this time they deliver before next tourist season. The Kainchi Dham bottleneck needs urgent attention - roads there are pathetic!

Instead of just building more roads, why not improve public transport? More electric buses, ropeways in hilly areas would reduce private vehicles. Our mountains can't handle endless traffic - think sustainable, CM sahab! #SaveUttarakhand

As a frequent visitor to Mussoorie, I appreciate this initiative. The mall road traffic during weekends is unbearable. Maybe implement odd-even for private vehicles during peak season? Also, condolences for the plane crash victims. Terrible tragedy.

Better late than never! Tourists bring revenue but also chaos. They should also focus on parking spaces - people park anywhere blocking narrow mountain roads. And yes, Vijay Rupani ji was indeed a humble leader. May his soul rest in peace.

While infrastructure is important, can we also talk about tourist behavior? Littering, honking unnecessarily, stopping in middle of roads for photos - these add to jams. Need awareness campaigns along with road projects. Uttarakhand's beauty must be preserved ❤️
