Assam Minister Atul Bora has said that works worth Rs 95 crore has been completed on the 'Shaheed Smarak Kshetra' project in Guwahati.

The main statue will be the sixth-tallest statue building in the world...Work on the second phase is also underway," Atul Bora told reporters on Saturday.

Speaking to ANI, Minister Bora said, "We are wholeheartedly supporting this move of the CM. It is there even in my own district, the CM is visiting there today. It is important to do this, wherever the issue persists, because whoever has encroached on the tribal belt and block? Doubtful people. So, this is very important."

On Tuesday, the Assam State BJP stated that the ongoing eviction drives will continue until every inch of illegally encroached land in Assam is cleared. This is not merely an administrative step; it is the final battle to safeguard the very existence of Assam, stated the BJP, Assam Pradesh.

While the memorial is important, I wonder if ₹95 crore couldn't have been better spent on healthcare or education in tribal areas? The eviction drive seems harsh - rehabilitation should come before demolition.

As someone whose grandfather participated in the Assam movement, this memorial brings tears to my eyes. But government should ensure equal focus on protecting indigenous rights while doing eviction drives. Balance is key!

The scale of this project is impressive! Making it the 6th tallest statue building shows Assam's pride in its history. But hope they maintain it properly - many memorials in India become neglected after inauguration.

Good initiative but execution matters. Hope they don't compromise on quality like many other govt projects. Also, the eviction drive should be transparent - no genuine tribal should suffer while removing illegal encroachers.
