Wait a little, our manifesto is coming: Congress Ashok Gehlot on Tejashwi Yadav's job promise

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot asks voters to await INDI alliance manifesto while BJP's Giriraj Singh calls Tejashwi Yadav's job promise "laughable" amid land-for-jobs case.

"Wait a little, our manifesto is coming. Everything will be clear in it - Ashok Gehlot"

Patna, October 10

As Bihar prepares for the Assembly election, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav promised to ensure government jobs in every household in Bihar if voted to power.

However, Congress senior leader Ashok Gehlot on Friday asked to wait until the INDI alliance's manifesto before outlining the alliance's promises for the Bihar Assembly election.

Speaking about Tejashwi Yadav's promise, Ashok Gehlot said that the "situation will become clear" in the alliance's manifesto.

"Wait a little, our (Mahagathbandhan) manifesto is coming. Everything will be clear in it... There are some things that we wish to achieve, and we want to demonstrate that we will do these things after the government is formed... Finally, when the Mahagathbandhan's manifesto comes, the situation will become clear."

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said that it's a "laughable" poll promise while asserting that former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister's father (RJD supremo Lalu Yadav) was registering lands in his name in exchange for jobs for the candidates.

Giriraj Singh was referring to the Land-for-jobs case in which a court has reserved order on framing of charges in a case against Lalu Prasad and his family. The CBI has concluded its arguements on framing charges.

"It's laughable, his father was busy registering land in his name for the jobs. Why didn't you do it in 15 years? What is your contribution? You say you gave jobs, where did you give them? What did you do in the department you worked in?" Union Minister Singh told reporters.

The comments follow Yadav's announcement on Thursday that, within 20 days of the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government, it will pass a law ensuring a government job for every household in Bihar.

"We are announcing today that in every family in Bihar where no one currently holds a government job, a new legislation will be enacted to ensure employment. Within 20 days of forming the government, this law will be passed, and within 20 months, every family without a government job will have at least one member employed in government service. Tejashwi will ensure that no household in Bihar is left without a government job," Yadav said while addressing a press conference in Patna.

The promise comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, which are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11. The result will be out on November 14.

Gehlot is right to ask for patience. Let's wait for the proper manifesto before jumping to conclusions. Alliance partners need to coordinate their promises properly.

As a Bihari youth, I'm tired of these empty promises every election. First deliver on existing commitments, then make new ones. The land-for-jobs case shows why we should be cautious.

While I appreciate the ambition, 20 months timeline for government jobs in every household seems unrealistic. Focus on creating sustainable employment opportunities instead of just government jobs. 👍

The coordination issues within INDIA alliance are showing. One leader makes big promises while another says wait for manifesto. They need to get their act together before elections.

Respectfully, I think both sides need to focus more on policy details rather than political statements. Bihar deserves concrete development plans, not just election promises.
