If he is a true Tamilian, why did he not coin his movie in Tamil : BJP' Tamilisai Soundarajan lashes out at Kamal Hassan

BJP leader Tamilisai Soundarajan slams Kamal Haasan for not releasing his movie in Tamil, questioning his commitment to Tamil identity.

"If he is a true Tamilian, why didn’t he coin his movie in Tamil? – Tamilisai Soundarajan"

Chennai, June 14

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Soundarajan on Saturday lashed out at actor Kamal Hassan and questioned him on why he did not release his movie in Tamil if he was a true Tamilian.

She further stated that Hassan did not respect Tamil.

"People are telling me that if I don't support Kamal Haasan, then I am not a Tamilian. I ask Kamal Haasan, if he is a true Tamilian, why didn't he coin his movie in Tamil?... What is 'Thug Life'? Is it a Tamil phrase?... When it's about business, he doesn't respect Tamil. At the peak of his career, he didn't express his respect for Tamil. He was acting in Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi films," Soundarajan told ANI.

She further claimed that Hassan was dividing people in the name of Tamil and only wanted to publicise his movie on an emotional basis.

"Now he wants to publicise his movie on an emotional basis. He is thanking the DMK government for offering him a Rajya Sabha seat. Initially, he said that he started the party only to challenge DMK... Now he is dividing the people in the name of Tamil..." she further added.

Meanwhile, on June 13, the Supreme Court sought the Karnataka government's response to a plea seeking protection from threats against the screening of Kamal Haasan's film, Thug Life.

Considering the urgency of the matter, a bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan issued notices to the Karnataka government, the State police, Raaj Kamal Films International Private Limited and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) seeking their responses to the plea.

During the hearing, the counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the state authorities have taken no action in Karnataka despite violent threats being issued against linguistic minorities in the State.

"No FIR has been registered. They have joined hands with extremist elements", advocate A Velan stated.

After hearing the matter, the Court sought the responses of the authorities mentioned above and listed the matter to be heard next week.

On Monday, the top court refused to hear Reddy's plea urgently and asked the petitioner to approach the concerned High Court.

Why is everything being politicized? Kamal Haasan has contributed immensely to Tamil cinema. Just because he acts in other languages doesn't make him less Tamil. This is such a narrow-minded view! 🤦‍♀️

Tamilisai ji makes a valid point. If Kamal Haasan truly cares about Tamil identity, why choose a Hindi title 'Thug Life'? At least he could have used a Tamil equivalent. But politicians shouldn't question someone's Tamilness - that's going too far.

As a film lover, I don't care what language the title is in. Kamal sir has given us masterpieces like Nayakan and Hey Ram. Let's not forget his contributions because of politics. The real issue here is the threats to his movie's screening in Karnataka!

Both sides are wrong here. Politicians shouldn't question someone's Tamil identity, but Kamal Haasan also shouldn't play politics with Tamil sentiments. Why can't we just enjoy good cinema without all this drama? 😩

This is typical BJP strategy - questioning people's regional identities. First they did it with Shah Rukh Khan's patriotism, now Kamal's Tamil identity. Why can't we accept that artists can belong to multiple cultures?

The bigger issue is the threats to the movie's release! When will we stop this culture of intimidation? Whether you like Kamal's politics or not, artistic freedom must be protected. Supreme Court should take strict action.
