CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Aug. 23
The Rt. Hon. Lord Swraj Paul died peacefully in London on the evening of August 21, 2025, surrounded by family. A respected industrialist, philanthropist and statesman, his work left a lasting mark across business, education and charitable causes worldwide.
From Punjab to MIT to Global Business
Born in Punjab, India, Lord Paul rose from modest beginnings and took his education to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He went on to lead Caparo, the London-based family of companies, and turned Bull Moose Tube into one of North America's largest steel pipe and tubing producers, with annual capacity topping one million tons.
Parliamentary Service and a Philanthropic Heart
Lord Paul served as a member and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords, championing industry, education and charitable work. He and his family donated millions to causes around the world, notably supporting MIT and conservation efforts at London Zoo.
A Foundation Built from Love and Loss
The Aruna and Ambika Paul Foundation grew out of a personal tragedy: the loss of his daughter Ambika to leukemia in 1968. Established in 1978 and later renamed to honor his wife Lady Aruna Paul, the foundation focuses on education, culture and health initiatives that benefit children and young people globally.
Remembered by Colleagues and Family
John Krupinski, CEO of Bull Moose Tube, said employees felt "blessed, honored and proud" to have known Lord Paul. He was admired for personally thanking workers on every visit, stressing the dignity of labor and caring deeply for employees and their families. His eldest son, The Hon. Ambar Paul, will continue leadership of Caparo and Bull Moose Tube.
A Lasting Legacy
Lord Swraj Paul's life combined entrepreneurial drive with a deep commitment to giving back. His influence on business, philanthropy and public service will continue to inspire future generations.
