Will soon make decision in farmers' interest: Maharashtra CM Fadnavis

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis vows imminent decision for rain-affected farmers as Amit Shah pledges central support and NDA MLAs donate salaries to relief fund.

"We will soon make a decision in the interest of farmers - Devendra Fadnavis"

Pune, October 5

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said that a decision will be made soon to support farmers affected by heavy rains.

"We had asked for aid to the farmer through FRP, but some sugar factory owners opposed us. Now, some sugar factories are cutting the sugarcane of the farmer, and we should pay attention to them... Our city faced such heavy rain. Our farmers are in a disaster. Some people want to politicise this disaster... We will soon make a decision in the interest of farmers," CM said.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the government would provide all necessary help to the farmers of Maharashtra affected by the recent rains, which have led to crop losses.

Speaking at the inauguration of the expanded capacity of Dr Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Cooperative Sugar Factory in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar, Shah said that MLAs of the National Democratic Alliance donated one month's salary to the relief fund to help the affected farmers.

"Yesterday, all three of them (Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar) had a long meeting with me. On behalf of Modi ji, I have assured him that the Maharashtra government should send us a detailed report. Modi ji will not delay in helping the farmers of Maharashtra. All this has happened because the people of Maharashtra have elected a government that cares about everyone. All our NDA MLAs have donated one month's salary to the relief fund," Shah said.

"The Maharashtra government has taken many initiatives to help the farmers," he added.

Shah further highlighted the renaming of the districts -- Ahmednagar to Ahilyanagar and Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were only possible under the BJP-Sena government.

"This is something that only the followers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj can do. Today I felt good that this (Ahilyanagar) district has been associated with the name of Ahilyabai. The BJP had changed the name of Aurangabad. This is something that only the followers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj can do," he said.

The Minister, during his state visit, also visited the Shirdi Sai Dham.

While I appreciate the concern shown, why does it take disasters for our leaders to act? Farmers need consistent support, not just relief after damage is done. The sugar factory issue should have been resolved months ago.

Good to see MLAs donating their salary, but is one month's salary really enough? The scale of damage requires much more substantial aid. Hope the central government releases adequate funds soon.

Instead of focusing on renaming districts, the government should prioritize farmer welfare. What's the use of new names when our annadata is suffering? Action speaks louder than words! 💪

As someone working in agricultural development, I must say the FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) system needs serious reform. Sugar factories exploiting farmers during such crises is unacceptable. Hope this leads to permanent solutions.

My uncle is a farmer in Ahmednagar... sorry, Ahilyanagar. His entire sugarcane crop is gone. Hope the aid reaches genuine farmers and not just stays on paper. We need transparency in relief distribution. 🙏
