UP set to become global hub for electronics manufacturing: CM Yogi Adityanath

UP CM Yogi Adityanath unveils Electronics Policy 2025 targeting $50B production and 10 lakh jobs, positioning state as global electronics manufacturing leader under Make in India.

"Uttar Pradesh must capitalise on the immense potential in this sector - CM Yogi Adityanath"

Lucknow, August 26

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials for the implementation of the Uttar Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy-2025, a major step aimed at transforming the state into a global hub for electronics manufacturing.

According to the release, the policy is designed to attract large-scale investments, boost production, and generate massive employment opportunities, further consolidating Uttar Pradesh's position as a leading player in India's rapidly growing electronics sector.

During an important meeting held on Tuesday, the Chief Minister discussed the proposed policy prepared by the IT and Electronics department and offered guidelines.

The Chief Minister said that the electronics sector is the fastest-growing area of India's economy. Today, India is the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer, with Uttar Pradesh contributing nearly 60% of the country's output.

"Uttar Pradesh must capitalise on the immense potential in this sector. Over the past eight years, the state has made historic progress in industrial development. Now it is time for Uttar Pradesh to establish a distinct identity on the global map in electronics manufacturing. This policy will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' while taking the state's economy to new heights", the Chief Minister said during the meeting.

During the meeting, officials stated that in 2014-15, electronics production in India was only Rs 1.9 lakh crore, which reached Rs 11.3 lakh crore by 2024-25. Mobile production has also increased from Rs 18,000 crore to Rs 5.45 lakh crore, and mobile exports have grown from Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2 lakh crore. In the financial year 2023-24, electronics hardware exports from Uttar Pradesh amounted to approximately Rs 37,000 crore.

The meeting highlighted that the proposed policy targets $50 billion in electronics production within the next five years, generating nearly 10 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities. This will make a significant contribution to the state's goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy, as stated in the release.

While discussing the policy provisions, the Chief Minister said that to attract investors, Uttar Pradesh should provide top-up incentives along with the central government's Electronic Component

Manufacturing scheme provisions, such as attractive subsidies on capital investment, additional benefits, exemptions on stamp duty and electricity charges, interest grants, logistics, and operational support, must also be included.

The Chief Minister emphasised that special incentives should be provided to investors who generate employment in the state and give preference to the youth of Uttar Pradesh.

He further stated that transparency and timely implementation must be ensured in executing the policy. Investors will be provided all facilities through a single-window system, ensuring that ease of doing business remains the top priority.

Employment generation for youth will be aligned with the actual needs of industries, and skill development programs will be conducted accordingly.

It was also stated in the meeting that the proposed policy will promote research and development, innovation, skill development, and startup ecosystems. Electronics manufacturing clusters established in Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway region will be further strengthened.

With the upcoming Jewar International Airport and the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, the state will achieve an even stronger position in the global supply chain.

The Chief Minister said that a concrete action plan should be formulated to make Uttar Pradesh a global hub for electronics component manufacturing. This policy will not only attract foreign investment but also reduce import dependence, promote domestic value addition, and help save foreign exchange.

Great initiative but implementation is key. Hope the single-window system actually works and doesn't get stuck in bureaucracy. We've seen many policies announced but ground reality is different. Fingers crossed this time! 🤞

As someone from Noida, I've seen the electronics clusters grow. With Jewar airport coming up, UP is definitely becoming an industrial powerhouse. This could be a game-changer for our youth employment!

The growth numbers are impressive - from ₹1.9 lakh crore to ₹11.3 lakh crore in electronics production! If UP can achieve $50 billion target, it will significantly boost India's manufacturing capabilities. Atmanirbhar Bharat in action!

Hope they prioritize local hiring as promised. Often these big projects bring workers from other states. UP youth deserve first preference in these jobs. Skill development programs should start immediately!

The focus on R&D and innovation is crucial. Manufacturing alone isn't enough - we need to move up the value chain and develop our own technology. Good to see that aspect included in the policy.
