"It is a matter of pride that, after Independence, the IB has played a stellar role in providing security to the people of India and ensuring the unity and integrity of the Nation. - President Droupadi Murmu / President's Secretariat"

New Delhi, December 23

The President Droupadi Murmu presented the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar-2025 at an award ceremony held at Gantantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan, the release said.

In the second edition of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar, 24 awards were presented to distinguished scientists across four categories: Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva, and Vigyan Team.

The objective of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is to recognise the notable and inspiring contributions made by the scientists, technologists and innovators individually or in teams in various fields of science, technology and technology-led innovation.

Earlier today, President Murmu addressed the IB Centenary Endowment Lecture on the subject 'People-Centric National Security: Community Participation in Building Viksit Bharat' in New Delhi today, according to the President's Secretariat statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that it is a matter of pride that, after Independence, the IB has played a stellar role in providing security to the people of India and ensuring the unity and integrity of the Nation.

The President said that the theme of this lecture, 'People-Centric National Security: Community Participation in Building Viksit Bharat,' is of immediate and long-term significance for our country. All institutions concerned, including IB, should spread awareness among our people that national security is the responsibility of every citizen. Alert citizens can provide strong support to government agencies engaged in national security. When organised into communities, our citizens can achieve greater synergy and support the government's national security initiatives. Our Constitution enumerates the Fundamental Duties of citizens. Many of these duties relate to wider dimensions of national security. Students, teachers, media, resident welfare associations, civil society organizations and several other communities can propagate these duties.

The statement said the President stated that community participation strengthens national security. There are numerous examples of alert citizens helping professional forces with their input to avert security crises. An expanded meaning and strategy of national security places people at the centre. People need not be passive observers of what happens around them. They should become alert and active partners in the security of their own surroundings and also of regions beyond it. 'Jan Bhagidari' is the cornerstone of people-centric security.

The President's speech on 'Jan Bhagidari' in national security is spot on. In today's complex world, security isn't just the government's job. As a teacher, I plan to discuss these fundamental duties with my students. Awareness truly begins at the grassroots level.

While celebrating the awards is good, I hope the government also focuses on increasing the R&D budget. Our scientists do wonders with limited resources. For a true 'Viksit Bharat', we need to fund our innovators much more aggressively. The intent is right, but the investment must follow.

Wonderful to see women scientists being honored, I'm sure. Their stories of perseverance in a male-dominated field need to be highlighted more. These awards should come with a mandate to showcase the winners in schools and colleges to build role models.

Connecting science awards with a lecture on national security is interesting. Technology is indeed the new frontier of security. Our tech innovators are the silent soldiers building a secure and developed India. Salute to all the awardees! 🇮🇳

The emphasis on community participation is a universal principle. Whether it's neighborhood watch or reporting suspicious activity online, an alert citizenry is the best first line of defense. India's scale makes this 'people-centric' approach both challenging and essential.
