Prasidh Krishna replaced by a concussion substitute after helmet blow in India A match

India A fast bowler Prasidh Krishna substituted after being hit on the helmet against Australia A, raising concerns ahead of West Indies Test squad selection.

"The medical team has not revealed the severity of Prasidh’s injury yet - Report"

Lucknow, Sep 24

Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna suffered a blow to the helmet during the second unofficial Test between India A and Australia A in Lucknow, forcing him to be replaced by Yash Thakur as a concussion substitute.

The delivery struck him on the helmet, and although he continued batting after undergoing a mandatory concussion check, he walked back to the pavilion three overs later. Mohammed Siraj replaced him at the crease at that point.

Later, when India A were dismissed for 194 in reply to Australia A’s 420, Thakur came in as the last batter in Prasidh’s place, making the substitution official.

The medical team has not revealed the severity of Prasidh’s injury yet, but his availability will be closely monitored, with India’s selectors set to announce the Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against West Indies later on Wednesday.

Prasidh is in contention for a spot alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep, who formed the pace attack during India’s recent five-Test series in England.

That England tour was a significant step in Prasidh’s red-ball career. He claimed 14 wickets in three matches at an average of 37.07, showing promise as a hit-the-deck bowler capable of troubling top-order batters.

The current A series was his first competitive outing since that tour. However, his returns have been modest—0 for 90 in 21 overs in the first match, followed by 1 for 76 in 17 overs in the first innings of the second.

At stumps on Day Two in Lucknow, Australia A were 16 for 3 in their second innings, still holding a commanding lead.

The first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A had ended in a draw. After the ongoing match, India A and Australia A will be playing three unofficial ODIs in Kanpur.

Head injuries are no joke. Smart move to substitute him even though he passed the initial test. Better safe than sorry when it comes to brain health.

Yaar, this is really bad timing for Prasidh. He was just starting to find his rhythm in Tests. Hope this doesn't affect his selection chances. The competition for pace spots is intense with Bumrah, Siraj, and Akash Deep all performing.

While I appreciate the safety measures, I'm concerned about Prasidh's recent form. 0/90 and 1/76 aren't great figures. Maybe the selectors should consider other options for West Indies series until he's fully match-fit.

Good to see cricket taking head injuries seriously. In the past, players would just tough it out. Modern protocols are much better for player welfare.

Get well soon, Prasidh! 🙏 His performance in England showed real potential. Hope this setback doesn't derail his progress. The Australia A batters must be really quick to hit him on the helmet like that.
