"The PM-KISAN scheme is a significant step toward increasing farmers' income. – Shivraj Singh Chouhan"

Patna, August 2

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Bihar on 'Kisan Utsav Diwas', and stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transferred over ₹20,000 crore to nearly 10 crore farmers' bank accounts through the PM-KISAN scheme.

"The land of Bihar is wonderful. Its soil contains both science and philosophy. Here, there is both hard work and dedication. Now the direction of research in the agricultural sector will be determined not from Delhi, but from villages and farmers' fields. Under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, more than ₹20,000 crore has been transferred to farmers' accounts today," he said.

Speaking during his visit to Bihar, Chouhan highlighted the government's commitment to boosting farmers' income through various initiatives.

"It is a matter of pride to be in Bihar on 'Kisan Utsav Diwas.' The PM-KISAN scheme is a significant step toward increasing farmers' income. Additionally, a fertiliser subsidy of approximately Rs 1.75 lakh crore is being provided to support farmers," Chouhan said.

He further praised the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar for effectively implementing agricultural schemes.

"Under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, affordable loans are being provided to farmers. The state is also performing exceptionally in the irrigation sector," the minister added.

In the last five years, the PM-KISAN Scheme has evolved into a transformative initiative for the farming community, achieving significant milestones in financial inclusion and rural empowerment.

Its vision of providing direct and timely assistance to millions of farmers has been implemented with remarkable efficiency. The scheme's seamless digital infrastructure, which enables direct transfers to beneficiaries' accounts, has set a benchmark for transparency and effective governance.

Further, the scheme has enhanced farmers' risk-taking capacity, leading them to undertake riskier but comparatively productive investments.

The funds received by recipients under PM-KISAN are not only helping them with their agricultural needs, but it is also catering to their other expenses such as education, medical, marriage, etc.

These are the indicators of the positive impact of the scheme on the farmers of the country. PM KISAN has truly been a game changer for the farming community of our country.

As PM-KISAN continues to expand its reach, it stands as a testament to the government's commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and enhancing the livelihoods of India's farmers.

As someone from Bihar, I appreciate the minister's words about our soil and farmers. But implementation is patchy here - many small farmers in my village still haven't received benefits. The scheme is good, but needs better ground-level execution.

₹6000 per year is peanuts compared to what farmers actually need! Government should increase the amount and make payments quarterly instead of yearly. Our annadata deserves better support.

The digital transfer system is working well in my district (Telangana). No middlemen, no corruption. This is how all welfare schemes should function. Kudos to the team behind this initiative! 🙌

While the scheme is helpful, what farmers really need is proper MSP and market access. My father still has to sell his produce to middlemen at throwaway prices. Cash transfers alone won't solve agriculture crisis.

Good to see Bihar getting attention! Our farmers work so hard but get little recognition. The fertilizer subsidy mentioned is much needed - hope it reaches the actual cultivators and not just big landowners.
