"Public policy is a key enabler of greater government-industry interfaces - Atul K Thakur, PHDCCI"

Bhopal, September 29

The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organised the first edition of "India Business and Public Policy Forum" under the aegis of its State Development Council and Madhya Pradesh State Chapter in association with Visa Inc in Bhopal on Monday.

The initiative is meant to support business and community to converge with the government and policy-making process in states.

"A fast changing international business landscape is increasingly offering unprecedented opportunities and challenges. India, the world's fourth largest economy--and with an undeniable potential to further claim the better green shoots, is a happening place where the business expertise should be shaped through the global business fundamentals. In the modern time, public policy is a key enabler of greater government-industry interfaces, exploring the key challenges and opportunities facing governments and organisations, while diving deeper into everything from business strategy and geopolitics, to trade law and sustainability," said Atul K Thakur, Senior Secretary, PHDCCI in his opening remarks.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary (Home, Culture & Tourism) and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, said "The global context is invaluable, especially to have a hands-on approach for the ins and outs of cross-border trade, global governance and more--for both the public and private sector. Madhya Pradesh is known for its progressive investment policy in the state with a single window system and other enabling systems at place. Be it infrastructure, connectivity and required commitment for sustainable development of tourism in the state, Madhya Pradesh is offering unique policy advantages to tourism/hospitality and allied sectors. We should value our own capability and without deterring with the global challenges that offer opportunities as well."

He further highlighted that India's track record has been to successfully navigate the challenges and come out stronger after every crisis. PHDCCI's initiative for making a public policy dialogue platform is remarkable.

With a clearer understanding for the global business landscape--and how private organisations and governments alike can deliver lasting social or economic change with new innovations, technology and services in India's states, PHDCCI's State Development Council has launched a new policy dialogue and government-industry outreach series in states called "India Business & Public Policy Forum".

The leading policymakers from the government and industry leaders attended the programme and aimed to bridge the gap between business and policy--and equip the stakeholders' to make an impact in business that reaches beyond borders.

Great initiative by PHDCCI! As a small business owner from Indore, I've faced challenges understanding policy changes. Such forums can bridge the information gap between government and entrepreneurs. Looking forward to attending future editions.

While the concept is good, I hope these forums actually reach grassroots entrepreneurs and not just big corporates. Often such events become networking parties for established players. The real challenge is including MSMEs from tier 2-3 cities.

MP tourism has so much potential! Good to see focus on sustainable tourism development. Our heritage sites and natural beauty can create many employment opportunities if supported by right policies. 🇮🇳

The global business landscape reference is crucial. Indian businesses need to understand international trade dynamics to compete effectively. Hope this forum addresses practical challenges like export regulations and cross-border payments.

Excellent move! Policy-business dialogue is essential for economic growth. Hope they discuss implementation challenges too - often good policies fail at execution level. Bhopal was a good choice given MP's development trajectory.
