"Only an honest government can provide such facilities to the people. - Arvind Kejriwal"

New Delhi, September 22

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday lauded the Punjab government's decision to provide citizens with free health cover of Rs 10 lakh, calling it a "historic announcement."

In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote, "The Aam Aadmi Party government's Chief Minister of Punjab has made a historic announcement today. You must listen to this announcement. Punjab has become the first state not just in India, but in the world, to provide its citizens with free health cover of Rs 10 lakh."

Kejriwal asserted that only an "honest government" could implement such welfare schemes.

"Only an honest government can provide such facilities to the people. In the past, leaders in previous governments would pocket public money instead of spending it on the public. Now, Punjab has a people's government that spends the people's money on the people themselves," he added.

The reaction comes after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday announced the rollout of a state health insurance scheme under which every family in Punjab will be eligible for cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh.

Speaking about the initiative, Mann said the benefit would be provided through a 'CM Health Card', with the registration process beginning tomorrow.

"A few days ago, we announced that we would provide ₹10 lakhs health insurance to every family in the state. Using the CM Health Card, people will be able to avail the benefit of cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakhs. The registration for this scheme will start tomorrow. Under this health card, every citizen of Punjab will get free and better treatment," the Chief Minister said.

Earlier today, the AAP national convener welcomed the release of AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava from jail, describing him as a "lion of AAP" who would not be stopped by threats or imprisonment.

In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote, "Truth may be troubled, but it can never be defeated. In Gujarat, AAP MLA and son of the tribal community, Chaitar Vasava, is finally coming out of jail. He is a lion of AAP, who will not be stopped by false threats or the fear of prison."

AAP Gujarat leader Manoj Sorathiya posted a video on AAP's Gujarat handle on X and said, "MLA @Chaitar_Vasava who fought for the tribal community, tribal areas and the people of Gujarat will come out of jail. The charge sheet and today's arguments made it clear that Chaitar Vasava was sent to jail on false charges."

"MLA Chaitar Vasava will start the fight for change again. Aam Aadmi Party will go door to door and fight against the dictatorship of BJP," the official handle posted.

Good initiative but implementation matters most. Hope the registration process is simple and hospitals actually honor these cards. We've seen many schemes fail due to poor execution.

As someone who's seen healthcare systems globally, making Punjab the first state worldwide to offer this is impressive. The real test will be sustainability and quality of care provided.

While the health scheme is commendable, mixing it with political messaging about "honest government" and the Gujarat MLA case feels unnecessary. Focus should remain on the policy benefits for people.

My relatives in Punjab are really happy about this! Especially middle-class families who struggle with medical costs. Hope the scheme reaches everyone without corruption 🙏

The financial implications of such a massive scheme need careful consideration. While noble, taxpayers should understand how this will be funded long-term. Transparency is key.
