Not a matter of 'vote chori', but Rahul Gandhi suffering a brain theft: Maharashtra CM

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis calls Rahul Gandhi an "urban Maoist" for urging Gen-Z to topple constitutional government amid vote theft allegations.

"This is not a matter of 'vote chori', but Rahul Gandhi ji suffering a brain theft - Devendra Fadnavis"

Mumbai, September 19

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday hit out at Rahul Gandhi, and said the issue is not about "vote theft" but that Congress leader is "suffering a brain theft."

Fadnavis also accused him of showing signs of being an "urban Maoist" for suggesting that Gen-Z should topple a constitutional government.

Speaking to the reporters, Devendra Fadnavis said, "This is not a matter of 'vote chori', but Rahul Gandhi ji suffering a brain theft...He has given evidence of him being a 'urban maoist' when he says that Gen-Z should topple a constitutional government..."

The remarks came a day after Rahul Gandhi said that India's Gen-Z would play an important role in protecting the Constitution and democracy, and pledged to support them in their fight against alleged "vote theft."

Sharing his picture, Rahul Gandhi posted on X, "The Youth of the Country The Students of the Country The Gen Z of the Country Will save the Constitution, protect democracy, and stop vote theft. I always stand with them. Jai Hind!"

This comes amid his fresh allegations of an attempt at vote theft in Karnataka's Aland constituency before the 2023 assembly polls. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he claimed that there was an attempt to delete more than 6,000 voters' names from the Aland constituency in Karnataka .

"In Aland, Karnataka, 6018 votes, somebody tried to delete these votes. We don't know the total number of votes deleted in 2023 elections, but somebody got caught. It was caught, by most crimes, by coincidence. What happened was that the Booth Level officer noticed that her uncle's vote had been deleted," he said.

The Lok Sabha LoP further alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, is "protecting vote chors" and is fully aware of how fraud is occurring in the deletion and addition of fake voters to the voter list. He stated that he has "10 per cent proof" that the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is "protecting vote chors (vote thieves)."

While I don't support personal attacks, the "urban Maoist" comment does make sense. Asking Gen-Z to topple a constitutional government is dangerous rhetoric. Youth should be encouraged to participate in democracy, not overthrow it.

Actually, Rahul Gandhi has a point about voter list manipulation. In my constituency in UP, many genuine voters found their names missing last election. This needs proper investigation instead of name-calling from both sides.

As an observer, the level of political discourse in India has really deteriorated. Instead of addressing the actual issue of electoral integrity, we get personal attacks. Both sides need to focus on substantive debate.

"10 percent proof" - what kind of statement is this from an opposition leader? Either you have evidence or you don't. This casual approach to serious allegations undermines our democratic institutions. 🇮🇳

The real issue is that our election commission needs to be completely independent and transparent. If there are genuine concerns about voter list manipulation, they should be investigated properly instead of becoming political football.
