Mumbai, June 16

Mumbai City FC (MCFC) announce the signing of Zothanpuia from Aizawl FC. The talented midfielder joins the Islanders on a 3-year contract, an MCFC release said on Monday.

According to the release, the 20-year-old made his professional debut for Electric Veng FC in Mizoram in 2022, before featuring for Oranje FC in the I-League 2 during the 2023-24 season, following which he played for Southern Samity in the 2024 Calcutta League. Fondly referred to as 'Puipuia', he joined Aizawl FC for their I-League campaign in the 2024-25 season, wherein his 20 appearances yielded three goals and two assists.

Mumbai City are bolstering their squad with some fresh blood and young players ahead of the new season. The addition of Zothanpuia will supplement the requisite qualities in midfield as the club augments the squad for the 2025-26 campaign and beyond.

Zothanpuia, as quoted by the MCFC press release, said, "I am thrilled to join Mumbai City. It is a club with a rich history and a record of winning trophies and titles. I am looking forward to contributing to that effort and hope to learn and grow with the experience in the squad. Playing in the ISL has been a dream of mine, and I am excited to live that dream with Mumbai City."

Sujay Sharma, Director of Football at Mumbai City, commented, "Zothanpuia is a young and promising talent who has shown potential in his early years. His football attributes and ability to contribute across midfield will add depth to our squad. We are building a competitive and talented group for the new season and the future. We are looking forward to seeing him develop and grow with the group," added the MCFC release.

Great signing by Mumbai City! Always happy to see young Indian talents getting opportunities in ISL. Hope Zothanpuia gets proper game time and not just sits on the bench like many promising players. Wishing him all the best! 🙌

As a Mizo football fan, I'm so proud to see another talent from our region making it big! Zothanpuia has shown great potential in I-League. Hope he adapts well to Mumbai's style of play. Mumbai City's scouting team deserves applause for spotting him.

Good move, but I hope Mumbai City doesn't just collect young talents without giving them proper chances. We've seen many promising players fade away in big clubs. The 3-year contract shows they believe in him - now back it up with minutes on the pitch!

Exciting times for Indian football! More clubs should follow Mumbai's approach of investing in domestic talent rather than just splashing money on foreign players. This is how we'll build a strong national team for the future. #SupportIndianFootball

Saw him play for Aizawl FC last season - the boy has skills! Quick feet and good vision. Needs to work on physicality though, ISL is more demanding than I-League. Hope Mumbai's coaching staff helps him develop properly.

As a Mumbai City fan, I'm loving our transfer strategy this season. First we got that young defender from Manipur, now Zothanpuia from Mizoram. Building a pan-Indian team is the way to go! Can't wait for the new season to start âš½
