Manipur's Erwin Khundrakpam tops NEET UG 2025 in state, says had no idea this would happen

NEET topper Erwin Khundrakpam shares his surprise success story, initial engineering dreams, and COVID setbacks in Manipur.

"I had no idea this would happen, as this was the worst exam I had all year. - Erwin Khundrakpam"

Thoubal, June 15

Expressing his happiness after achieving the first rank in the NEET-UG 2025 examination in Manipur by scoring 99.82 percentile, Erwin Khundrakpam highlighted that he was expecting such a result as it was his worst exam of the year.

Khundrakpam said that he wanted to become an engineer in the first instance, but later his father explained the importance of becoming a doctor. The latter said that he gave his first NEET attempt in 2023, and his class 11th results were not good due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I had no idea this would happen, as this was the worst exam I had all year. I was not expecting this at all. I initially wanted to become an engineer, but my father explained the importance of becoming a doctor, so I gave my first attempt in 2023. My Class 11 results weren't good because of COVID, so I wasn't well prepared back then. This year, I tried my best and worked hard", Erwin Khundrakpam told ANI on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Krishang Joshi secured All India Rank 3 in the NEET UG 2025 examination, entering the top ranks of one of India's toughest medical entrance tests.

Krishang, originally from Uttarakhand, took the NEET UG exam from Maharashtra and brought pride to his family and state with this remarkable achievement.

While speaking to ANI about his success, Krishang said, "Since class ten, my ambition has been to become a doctor, because as my parents say, it is a very noble profession, you can work independently and serve society."

The National Testing Agency on Saturday declared the results of the NEET (UG) examination. The NTA shared a post on their official 'X' handle and informed about the development.

The NEET (UG) examinations were held on May 4 across 548 cities in India and 14 international centres. More than 20.8 lakh students appeared for the NEET (UG) examination.

Rajasthan's Mahesh Kumar achieved the first rank in the NEET (UG) 2025 examination with a percentile of 99.9999547, whereas Madhya Pradesh's Utkarsh Awadhiya achieved the second rank with 99.9990095 percentile.

Interesting how he initially wanted to be an engineer but switched to medicine. Shows how parental guidance matters. Though I wonder if we put too much pressure on NEET - there are many paths to success.

As a teacher, I'm so happy to see students overcoming pandemic setbacks! This proves hard work beats all odds. Manipur, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan - talent is everywhere in Bharat 🇮🇳

NEET is too stressful for students. 20 lakh+ appearing for few thousand seats? We need more quality medical colleges. Still, kudos to these toppers - their dedication is next level!

"Worst exam of the year" and still topped? 😂 Only toppers can say such things! But seriously, his journey from poor Class 11 results to NEET topper shows what consistency can achieve. Doctor sahab banne ki badhai!

Good to see representation from smaller states. Often we only hear about metro city toppers. Hope Erwin and Krishang will serve in rural areas where doctors are needed most.
