Mammootty Returns to Kochi After 8 Months—What's Next for the Superstar?

The 74-year-old actor, known for his understated charm, professionalism, and discipline, arrived at the Kochi International Airport to a rousing reception from hundreds of fans and well-wishers who had gathered to welcome him back.

State Law Minister P. Rajeeve and local Congress legislator Anwar Sadath were among those who personally greeted the veteran star at the arrival lounge.

Clad in his trademark casual attire, Mammootty smiled, waved to his fans, and briefly acknowledged the media before slipping behind the wheel of his black Toyota Land Cruiser -- a vehicle instantly recognisable to his admirers. With his wife Sulfath by his side, he fastened his seat belt and drove off to his residence in the city.

According to sources close to the actor, Mammootty had been undergoing treatment in Chennai since March and recently resumed professional commitments with his pan-Indian film Patriot. The project, which began shooting at Hyderabad's Ramoji Rao Film City, recently concluded its London schedule -- marking the actor's first overseas shoot after his recovery.

Industry insiders said the actor is in excellent health and high spirits, with a busy schedule of Malayalam films lined up in the months ahead. He is expected to join the sets of his next Malayalam project in the coming days as shooting begins in Kerala.

Mammootty's return, marked by his trademark poise and quiet determination, has not only revived enthusiasm within the Malayalam film industry but also reassured his legions of fans who had been eagerly awaiting his comeback.

Later this week, the actor is also scheduled to attend a state government function, marking his first public engagement in Kerala since his return.

Incidentally, during Mammootty's absence from his home city, his long-time screen contemporary and friendly rival Mohanlal was conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Around the same time, Mammootty's actor-son Dulquer Salmaan made headlines when Customs officials visited his Kochi residence following alleged discrepancies in the registration papers of two of his cars.

With Mammootty's return, excitement is once again high in Mollywood circles, as the veteran actor -- whose career spans over five decades and more than 400 films -- readies himself for yet another dynamic phase in his illustrious journey.
