Keep oil prices down, I'm watching: Trump issues warning to everyone after US strikes on Iran

ANI June 24, 2025 206 views

Trump issued a sharp warning to oil companies and OPEC to keep prices low amid rising tensions with Iran. Tehran is reportedly considering blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil passageway, in retaliation for US airstrikes. A blockade could trigger a global energy crisis, particularly in Europe, which relies heavily on Gulf oil. Experts warn Iran may also escalate with cyberattacks or missile strikes on oil infrastructure.

Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump posted a strongly worded message calling "everyone" to help control prices amid ongoing economic concerns.

Though he did not name specific sectors, the remark appeared directed at US oil companies and possibly OPEC nations, amid fresh concerns over global energy stability.

"EVERYONE, KEEP OIL PRICES DOWN. I'M WATCHING! YOU'RE PLAYING RIGHT INTO THE HANDS OF THE ENEMY. DON'T DO IT!" Trump posted.

Earlier on Sunday, EuroNews reported that Iran is considering closing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategically vital chokepoints in the world, and any blockade by Tehran would pose serious risks for Europe following US airstrikes on Iran's nuclear installations.

Revolutionary Guard commander Sardar Esmail Kowsari told local media in an interview that closing the Strait of Hormuz "is under consideration, and Iran will make the best decision with determination," as per EuroNews.

"Our hands are wide open when it comes to punishing the enemy, and the military response was only part of our overall response," added Kowsari, who is a member of the Iranian parliament in addition to his military position.

Earlier on Sunday, US President Donald Trump said the "very successful" strikes had hit the Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan underground nuclear sites in Iran.

According to EuroNews, Iran's short- and medium-range missiles would be capable of targeting oil infrastructure platforms, pipelines in the Strait, or even attacking commercial vessels, and surface-to-surface missiles could target tankers or ports along the Gulf. Airstrikes using aircraft and drones could disable navigation or radar equipment at major shipping ports in the region.

Unmanned drones like Iran's Shahed models could potentially be used to attack specific shipping lanes or infrastructure in the Strait. Iran could attempt to deploy warships to block access to the Strait physically.

In 2012, Iran launched a cyberattack on Saudi Arabia's oil industry, showing its growing capability in this domain, as per EuroNews.

Blocking the Strait was one of the Iranian responses to the conflict, including terrorist acts on mainland Europe, which security expert Claude Moniquet cited in an interview with Euronews.

It would be "a disaster for Europe", the former French intelligence officer said.

Roughly 20 per cent of global oil and a significant portion of natural gas pass through the Strait.

Europe imports oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, much of which travels through the Strait. If Iran blocks it, global oil prices would spike, and Europe could face energy shortages, especially in countries dependent on Middle Eastern fuel, as per EuroNews.

This is why India needs to speed up renewable energy projects! We import 85% of our oil needs and any disruption in Hormuz will hit our economy hard. Time to reduce dependence on Gulf oil and focus on solar/wind energy. 🇮🇳

Trump's warning shows how vulnerable global oil markets are. India should strengthen ties with Russia for oil supplies and also explore African sources. Our strategic reserves won't last long if Hormuz is blocked. 😟

While US-Iran tensions are concerning, we must remember India's good relations with both countries. Our government should play a mediating role - we have cultural ties with Iran and strong economic ties with US. Win-win diplomacy needed!

Petrol prices are already ₹100+ in many cities. If this escalates, middle class Indians will suffer the most. Government should consider temporary fuel subsidies if prices spike further. Jaan hai to jahaan hai!

Interesting how Trump is concerned about oil prices only when it affects America. Where was this concern when sanctions on Iran hurt Indian oil imports? Global powers always act in self-interest. India must prioritize its own energy security first.
