Jaipur Open 2025: Kushal Singh's terrific 63 helps him surge ahead on day two

Kushal Singh fires a 63 to take a one-shot lead at the Jaipur Open. Yuvraj Sandhu and Veer Ahlawat are in close pursuit after brilliant rounds.

"“I’ve been quite consistent and have been shooting good scores from there on.” - Kushal Singh"

Jaipur, Dec 3

Kushal Singh’s terrific seven-under 63 helped him surge ahead on Day Two of the Jaipur Open 2025, an INR 1 crore event, being played at the Rambagh Golf Club in Jaipur. Gurugram’s Kushal Singh (64-63), whose fortunes have been on the upswing since his runner-up finish at the PGTI NexGen event in Bhubaneswar last month, totalled 13-under 127 at the halfway stage to gain one spot from his overnight tied second place and hold a one-shot lead.

PGTI Order of Merit leader Yuvraj Sandhu (65-63) too shot a 63 to end round two in second place at 12-under 128, thus rising four spots from day one.

Veer Ahlawat, the 2024 PGTI Ranking winner, produced a tournament low score of eight-under 62, an error-free round, that propelled him nine spots to tied third at 11-under 129. Joining Veer in joint third place was Ravi Kumar, who moved up six positions as a result of his 63, another bogey-free effort.

Manoj S., the first-round leader, dropped to tied 11th at five-under 135 following his score of 72 on Wednesday.

Two professionals from the host city of Jaipur made the cut, including Prakhar Asawa (two-under 138) and Hemendra Choudhary (one-under 139). Prakhar and Hemendra were placed tied 23rd and tied 34th, respectively.

The cut came down at even-par 140 with 54 professionals progressing to the money rounds.

Kushal Singh followed up his top-notch 64 in round one with another superb effort of 63 on day two. Thirty-one-year-old Kushal, who has posted a top-10, a top-20, and a top-30 finish in his last three events on the PGTI, has been steadily making his way up in the PGTI Rankings. He is currently placed 61st in the PGTI Order of Merit.

Kushal, who took a three-year break from golf prior to 2024 in order to attend to his family business, made a slow start on day two as he scored five pars followed by a bogey on the sixth hole. Kushal then rallied with eight birdies between the seventh and the 18th, where he came up with some outstanding drives as well as a couple of quality up and downs.

Kushal said, “I’ve been playing well since the start of the year when I finished inside the top-10 at the PGTI Qualifying School. However, my season really gained momentum after my runner-up finish at the NexGen event in Bhubaneswar. I’ve been quite consistent and have been shooting good scores from there on.”

Yuvraj Sandhu once again rose into contention after his round of 63 that featured a chip-in and three long conversions.

Veer Ahlawat was brilliant off the tees and sank several putts from a range of 10 to 15 feet, including one for an eagle during his dazzling round of 62.

The scoring is just phenomenal! 63, 62... the course seems to be playing easy? Or is the talent level just that high now? Either way, great for Indian golf. Veer Ahlawat's error-free 62 is the round of the day for me.

Bas, ab final round mein bhi yehi consistency chahiye! It's great to see local Jaipur players Prakhar and Hemendra make the cut. Home support can do wonders. Hope they have a good weekend.

Yuvraj Sandhu
Yuvraj Sandhu is the Order of Merit leader for a reason. He's always there, lurking. One shot behind with two rounds to go... this is going to be a thrilling weekend. The battle between him and Kushal will be epic.

While the low scores are exciting, I do wonder if the course setup is challenging enough for a professional event. A cut at even-par with so many scores under par suggests it might be playing too easy. Just a thought.

The depth in Indian golf is really improving. From the leader Kushal at 61st in the rankings to the big names like Veer and Yuvraj all bunched up. This is healthy competition. Jai Ho!
