While I appreciate Rahul Gandhi paying tribute, I wish all political parties would rise above politics when remembering our national heroes. Sardar Patel belongs to all Indians, not any particular party.

As someone who studied Indian history, Patel's achievement in unifying the princely states is one of the most remarkable political accomplishments of the 20th century. The Statue of Unity is a fitting tribute to this great man.

The diplomatic skill required to integrate so many states without major bloodshed is incredible. Modern politicians could learn a lot from Patel's approach - firm when needed, but always prioritizing dialogue and negotiation.

Sometimes I wonder what India would look like today without Sardar Patel's efforts. We might have been dozens of small countries instead of one great nation. Truly the Iron Man indeed!
