"It is a sad day for us in Hockey India. The passing of Dr Paes draws curtains on a great era of hockey. The Olympic medal in Munich is a testament to their grit and determination. I had the good fortune of meeting him a few times and I have always been inspired by his passion for sports in general. He was a great advocate of inculcating sporting culture in the country. So sad to hear this news. My grandfather used to tell stories about watching Dr Paes play in the 70s. That generation of hockey players had real passion for the game. Hope our current players learn from their dedication.

While we mourn his loss, let's also celebrate his achievements. How many athletes today excel in multiple sports like he did? Hockey, cricket, football AND rugby! Truly remarkable versatility.

Respectful criticism: While the tributes are well-deserved, I wish our media gave this much attention to hockey legends when they're alive rather than only after they pass. Our sports icons deserve recognition throughout their lives.

His work in sports medicine was revolutionary for Indian athletes. We need more doctor-athletes like him who understand both sides of sports. Om Shanti 🕯️
