Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday inaugurated the Shimla Winter Carnival organised by the Shimla Municipal Corporation at the historic Ridge in Shimla.

The Chief Minister also visited the painting exhibition at the Gaiety Theatre and witnessed the Maha Nati performance, as well as the Home Guards Inter-Battalion Band Competition held near the Town Hall.

Welcoming tourists to Himachal Pradesh, Sukhu said that the state's serene and pollution-free environment not only offers peace and recreation but also promotes good health. He interacted with tourists, enquired about their experiences and assured them that visitors to the State would not face any inconvenience during their stay.

The Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh has been richly endowed by nature with exceptional scenic beauty, and its picturesque valleys attract crores of tourists every year. The focus on eco-tourism and homestays is the right way forward. It creates sustainable income for locals and preserves the pristine environment. Hope the online portal for homestay registration is user-friendly for our elders in the villages.

While the carnival is a great event, I hope the government is also paying equal attention to improving the basic infrastructure year-round. The roads in some parts of Himachal still need urgent repair, especially before the tourist season peaks.

The 'Drug-Free Himachal' theme is the most crucial part. Youth in the hills face unique challenges. Integrating this message into a joyful carnival is a smart way to spread awareness. Hope they have workshops and helplines at the venue too.
