Haryana CM announces relief measures for farmers
New Delhi, November 5
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced a special scheme to provide relief to farmers affected by heavy rains and floods during the 2025 monsoon season.
Under this scheme, the payment of electricity bills for all agricultural tubewell consumers in the state, for the period from July 2025 to December 2025, has been deferred for six months.
A spokesperson of the Energy Department informed that the electricity bills issued in July 2025 will now be payable in January 2026. Similarly, the August 2025 bills will be payable in February 2026, and the December 2025 bills will be payable in June 2026. This decision will benefit approximately 7.10 lakh agricultural consumers across the state.
The spokesperson further stated that the state government has clarified that during this period, no Late Payment Surcharge will be levied by UHBVN and DHBVN on any agricultural tubewell consumer, and electricity supply will continue as usual. The financial burden arising from this deferment will be borne by the Haryana Government.
This decision aims to provide immediate financial relief to farmers affected by heavy rains and floods so that they can resume their agricultural activities at the earliest.

While deferment helps, what about actual compensation for crop loss? Many farmers lost their entire harvest. Electricity bill deferment is good but not enough. Government should also provide direct financial aid.
As someone who works with rural communities, I can say this relief will make a real difference. The no late payment surcharge provision is particularly helpful. Hope other states follow Haryana's example.
My uncle is a farmer in Karnal district. His wheat crop was completely destroyed. This electricity bill deferment will help him save some money for buying new seeds. Thank you government! ðŸ™
The implementation is key. Hope the discoms actually follow these instructions and don't create problems for farmers. Last time there were issues with bill generation despite similar announcements.
This is a positive step but we need long-term solutions for flood management. Every year same story - floods damage crops, government gives temporary relief. Why not invest in better drainage and water management systems?
Helping 7.10 lakh farmers is significant! The financial burden on state government must be substantial but it's worth it to support our food producers during difficult times. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy.
