"representations received through SWAGAT should be resolved through collective efforts - Gujarat CMO Statement"

Gandhinagar, December 24

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel personally heard the representations of citizens who came forward during the December 2025 State SWAGAT and issued instructions to the concerned departments for their appropriate redressal. In this context, he also firmly instructed the state departments and administrative officials that representations received through SWAGAT should be resolved through collective efforts, the release said.

According to a Gujarat Chief Minister's Office statement (CMO), under the "SWAGAT" online public grievance redressal initiative, held on the fourth Thursday of every month, more than 97 applicants from across the state were present with their representations during the December 2025 State Swagat. In addition, redressal action was also undertaken at the district and taluka levels regarding 1,284 district SWAGAT and 2,458 taluka SWAGAT representations and issues.

The Chief Minister took a sensitive approach to the representations presented to him and instructed the concerned District Collectors to ensure proper redressal of such cases. He directed the District Collector to, after necessary verification of the local situation, provide a pathway for a farmer from Keshod taluka of Junagadh district to access his agricultural field.

Additionally, under the Sipu project in the Sabarmati Saraswati Link Canal scheme, directives were given to the Collector to immediately pay compensation for the acquired agricultural land of a farmer from Mehsana.

The Chief Minister also emphasised maintaining quality in infrastructure development and civic amenity works in urban areas and instructed that strict action be taken against those who show negligence or laxity in such works.

He further directed the relevant authorities to remove obstacles, immediately provide underground drainage connections on jointly owned land in the Vapi municipality area, and grant ownership rights by recording in the village revenue records the free residential plot allotted by the government to an applicant from Babra taluka.

In this State SWAGAT program was attended by the Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Vikrant Pandey, Officers on Special Duty Dhiraj Parekh and Rakesh Vyas, as well as Secretaries of the concerned departments from Gandhinagar and District Collectors via video conference.

While the program's intent is good, I hope this isn't just for show. The real test is whether the instructions given actually lead to on-ground solutions. Too often, orders are given in such meetings but get lost in bureaucratic red tape later. Fingers crossed for genuine redressal.

Directing action on infrastructure quality is crucial. In my city, new roads develop potholes within months. If strict action is taken against negligent contractors and officials, it will make a huge difference. CM's focus on this is appreciated.

The issue of land rights and drainage in Vapi is something many face in Gujarat's growing towns. Having a clear directive from the CM should help cut through local disputes. Hope the authorities follow through promptly.

Good to see the use of video conference to include District Collectors. This saves time and resources. More governance should be this tech-savvy. Gujarat is setting an example here.

The farmer's issue about accessing his field is so basic yet so critical. It's sad that one has to reach the CM's office for something like this. Shows the failure of local administration. Hope the Collector acts with sensitivity as instructed.
