A heated exchange between former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shikhar Dhawan has reignited tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terror attack in Kashmir. Afridi's controversial comments about Indian security forces prompted a passionate nationalist response from Dhawan, who defended the Indian Army's honor. The incident reflects the complex and sensitive relationship between the two neighboring countries, where cricket often serves as a proxy for deeper geopolitical rivalries. Despite the sharp rhetoric, Afridi's playful tea invitation suggests a underlying desire to maintain personal diplomatic channels.

After the attack, in which 28 civilians tragically lost their lives, Afridi appeared on Pakistani television and blamed India's security forces, questioning their efficiency, which did not sit well with Dhawan. The left-handed batter took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and posted a blistering reply.

He wrote, "Kargil mein bhi haraya tha, already itna gire hue ho aur kitna giroge, bewajah comments pass karne se acha hai apne desh ki taraqqi mai dimag lagao @SAfridiOfficial. Humein hamari Indian Army par bohot garv hai. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind! (We defeated you in Kargil, too. You have already fallen so low; how much lower will you go? Instead of making baseless comments, it would be better if you focused on your country's development. We are very proud of our Indian Army. Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Jai Hind!)"

To which Afridi has now replied, “Chouro jeet haar ko, aao tumhey chae pilata hun Shikhar. #FantasticTea (Forget about wins and losses, I will host you for tea Shikhar)".

Afridi further mocked the Indian media's coverage of the incident, comparing it to a Bollywood production and suggesting that Indian cricketers were wrong to blame Pakistan for the attack.

Speaking to Samaa TV, Afridi said, "Tum logon ki 8 lakh hi fauj hai Kashmir mein aur yeh ho gaya. Iska matlab nalayak ho, nikamme ho na tum log security de nahi sake logon ko (You have an 800,000-strong army in Kashmir and this still happened. It means you are inefficient and useless if you can't provide security to the people)."

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has been one of the deadliest in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama incident. The attack triggered global condemnation, and India has pointed towards Pakistan-backed terror outfits being responsible.

Afridi's tea invitation seems like a poor attempt to deflect from his irresponsible comments. Sportsmanship is one thing, but national security is another. Proud of Dhawan for standing up for our forces! 🇮🇳

Why can't we keep sports and politics separate? Both legends on the field, but this back-and-forth helps no one. The real tragedy is the lives lost in Pahalgam. 🙏

Respectfully disagree with Afridi's approach here. Making light of a tragedy with tea jokes while soldiers are dying? Not a good look, Boom Boom. Stick to cricket commentary.

The way Dhawan responded with facts and pride though! 🔥 That Kargil reference was *chef's kiss*. Our athletes representing more than just sports!

As a cricket fan from Pakistan, even I think Afridi went too far this time. Condemning violence should come before national pride. Both countries deserve better leadership.

The tea comment would've been funny in another context, but not after such a tragic event. Hope both nations can find peace someday. Cricket used to unite us 😔
