My first friend from Pavitra Rishta...: Ankita Lokhande remembers Priya Marathe

Ankita Lokhande shares heartfelt tribute for late co-star Priya Marathe, recalling their special bond as "wedee" from Pavitra Rishta days after her cancer battle.

"Priya was my first friend from Pavitra Rishta... our little gang always felt so wholesome - Ankita Lokhande"

Mumbai, September 1

The television industry is mourning the loss of actress Priya Marathe, best known for her role in 'Pavitra Rishta.' She passed away on August 31 at the age of 38, after reportedly battling cancer for a year.

Her sudden death has left colleagues and fans heartbroken. Among those who shared their grief was Priya's 'Pavitra Rishta' co-star and close friend Ankita Lokhande, who remembered her with an emotional note.

Ankita shared throwback pictures on Instagram from their time together, including moments from the sets, selfies, and even a group photo from Ankita's wedding. Along with the pictures, she recalled how Priya was her "first friend" from Pavitra Rishta and how their small gang with co-star Prarthana "always felt so wholesome" whenever they were together.

"Priya was my first friend from Pavitra Rishta. Me, Prarthana and Priya.. our little gang... it always felt so wholesome when we were together. Priya, Prats and I lovingly called each other wedee in Marathi, and that bond was truly special.. She was there in my good days and held me through my sad days... never once missing to show up when I needed her. She never missed attending the Gauri Maha Aarti during Ganpati Bappa, and this year, I'll pray for your soul there, my wedee... while missing you dearly," read her post.

Sharing how Priya supported her during both "good days" and "sad days," Ankita remembered her friend's strength, calling her "the strongest," and adding how she fought her battles with courage despite her illness.

"Priya was the strongest she fought every battle with so much courage. Aaj ti nahiye amchya sobat, and it breaks my heart to even write this. Losing her is a reminder that we really never know the battles someone is fighting behind their smile.. So, be kind... always, Priya, my dear wedee, you will always live in my heart and in my memories. Thank you for every laugh, every tear, every moment. Until we meet again... Om Shanti," she concluded.

Ankita's tribute shows what genuine friendship looks like. The "wedee" bond is so typically Maharashtrian and beautiful. It's true - we never know what battles people are fighting behind their smiles.

So young to go 😢 This is a reminder for all of us to get regular health checkups. Cancer doesn't care about age. My condolences to her family and friends.

Pavitra Rishta was such an important part of Indian television history. The entire cast had such great chemistry. It's sad to lose one of them so early. She was a wonderful actress in both Marathi and Hindi shows.

The industry should really have better health insurance and support systems for actors. Many struggle silently with health issues while maintaining public appearances.

Om Shanti 🕯️ Her performance in Bade Acche Lagte Hain was also memorable. Gone too soon. May God give strength to her family to bear this loss.
