Everyone gave their best throughout tournament, says Sameer Rizvi as DC end IPL 2025 with six-wicket win over PBKS

Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 58 powers Delhi Capitals to a thrilling six-wicket victory against Punjab Kings in their last IPL 2025 match.

"When I came in to bat, the required rate was high. My approach was to take three or four balls to settle in and then start attacking. – Sameer Rizvi"

Jaipur, May 25

Delhi Capitals (DC) ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign on a high, as they defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets in their final match of the season at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

Punjab Kings posted 206/8 in their 20 overs, but Delhi Capitals chased down the target with three balls to spare, courtesy of Sameer Rizvi's unbeaten 58 off 25 balls and Karun Nair's 44 off 27.

Reflecting on his match-winning performance, Rizvi said in the post-match press conference as quoted by the Delhi Capitals press release, "When I came in to bat, the required rate was high. My approach was to take three or four balls to settle in and then start attacking. Karun Nair, on the other hand, smashed four boundaries in an over, which eased the pressure on me and allowed me to take my time."

"We have to maintain a winning mindset in the IPL. Last year, even 260 was chaseable, so on a flat wicket, 200 is definitely chaseable. You have to stay positive when you're chasing. I was confident because it was a good wicket, and I backed myself to play my shots," he added.

When asked about his maiden IPL fifty, Rizvi expressed, "I felt very relaxed. The things I used to think about--what I need to do, how I need to play--I was finally able to execute them in this match. I feel really good about how I played, because this is exactly what I aspire to do."

Delhi Capitals finished their IPL 2025 campaign with seven wins, six losses, and one match washed out due to rain.

As they wrap up the season in fifth place, the 21-year-old batter said, "Winning or losing isn't in our hands. What is in our hands is playing good cricket. Everyone gave their best throughout the tournament. We couldn't make it to the playoffs, but overall, the team put in a strong effort."

What a finish by DC! Rizvi showed amazing composure under pressure. That six over extra cover in the 18th over was pure class 👏 Hope to see more of him next season. PBKS bowling needs serious work though - leaking 200+ runs has become their trademark.

Rizvi's innings was brilliant but can we talk about Karun Nair's comeback? After being out of IPL for 2 seasons, he proved his worth. Hope selectors are watching! #BringBackKarun

DC finishing 5th again...same old story every year. They need better auction strategy and proper team balance. Rishabh Pant's captaincy was good but middle order remains shaky. At least they ended on a positive note!

That partnership between Rizvi and Nair was fire! 🔥 But honestly, IPL is becoming too batsman-friendly. Bowlers need some help too - maybe reduce one powerplay over? #FairCricket

PBKS management should be ashamed. Year after year they assemble star players but fail to make playoffs. Need complete overhaul starting with coaching staff. Meanwhile, hats off to young Rizvi - future India prospect!
