Everyone has faith in judiciary: Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on SIR exercise in Bihar

Former Rajasthan CM Gehlot expresses faith in judiciary as Congress-RJD raise concerns over Bihar's voter revision exercise in Parliament.

"The matter is in the Supreme Court, and everyone has faith in the judiciary - Ashok Gehlot"

Jaipur, July 25

Amid the row over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in Bihar, former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said that the matter is subjudice and they have faith in the judiciary.

Speaking to ANI, Gehlot said, "The matter is in the Supreme Court, and everyone has faith in the judiciary. Let us see what happens. Congress and RJD already have their stance clear."

The INDIA bloc has raised the issue in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament and demanded a discussion.

On Thursday, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of being "biased" in its conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

The Congress MP also criticised the Union government, claiming it has failed to take its own members into confidence over the SIR process, and warned that the exercise could prove to be a "disaster" for the country.

"The government cannot even convince their own members, even they are saying this exercise is going to be a big disaster for democracy. ECI is completely biased. This is what the country is witnessing now," Venugopal told ANI.

Meanwhile, the ECI on Thursday said that 99 per cent of electors have already been covered under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar.

The poll body further stated that the booth-level lists of those electors who have not filled their forms, of deceased electors, and of electors who have permanently migrated have already been shared by BLOs/EROs/DEOs/CEOs with all political parties on July 20, so that they can point out any errors.

As per the SIR Order, any elector or any political party can file a claim in case of any missing names or raise an objection in case of any wrong inclusion till September 1.

Why is Congress always crying foul before elections? ECI has shared lists with all parties for verification. If there are genuine issues, they should point them out instead of making baseless allegations.

Bihar elections are crucial for INDIA alliance. They're just trying to create narrative that ECI is biased in case they lose. Typical political drama before elections 🤦‍♂️

As a Bihar voter, I appreciate ECI's transparency in sharing booth-level lists. We common people just want fair elections, not political mudslinging. Let's focus on real issues like development!

Respect to Gehlot ji for keeping faith in judiciary. Unlike others who start blaming institutions when things don't go their way. Supreme Court will give fair judgement on this matter.

The timing of this SIR exercise is suspicious. Why now when elections are near? ECI should explain why regular voter list updates weren't sufficient. Valid concerns being raised by opposition.
