"Telangana State has realised a cold wave weather condition today, especially the northern part. - Dharmaraju, Scientist, IMD Hyderabad"

Hyderabad, December 30

Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail across parts of Telangana on December 30 and 31, with northern districts expected to bear the brunt, according to the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad.

Speaking to ANI, Dharmaraju, Scientist at IMD Hyderabad, said that Telangana has already begun experiencing cold wave conditions, particularly in the northern districts.

"Telangana State has realised a cold wave weather condition today, especially the northern part of Telangana. Adilabad District has experienced cold wave conditions, as well as the city outskirts, that is, Sangareddy also experienced cold wave conditions," he said.

Highlighting temperature levels, he added that Adilabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state.

"If you see the recorded maximum-minimum temperatures over these areas, particularly Adilabad recorded the lowest minimum temperature, it is around 6.7 and coming to the city outskirts, the Rangareddy, it is about 8.2°C is the minimum temperature," Dharmaraju told ANI.

According to the IMD, prevailing low-level winds from the southeasterly and easterly directions are contributing to the cold wave conditions across the state.

"Presently, Telangana State is having low-level winds, mainly from the southeasterly as well as the easterly component. So because of this, the coming two days, that is on 30th of December as well as 31st of December, cold wave conditions likely to prevail in Telangana state, especially over," he said.

The IMD has identified 10 districts likely to be affected by cold wave conditions over the next two days. These include Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, Medak, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Jangoan, Warangal and Hanamkonda.

Dharmaraju also said that dry weather conditions are expected to dominate the state in the coming days.

"Most of the time the weather looks to be a dry weather condition and as usual, in the winter conditions, the early morning fog as well as the winter chill effect may continue for the coming two days," he said.

Looking ahead, he added that dry weather is likely to persist for the next five days due to prevailing wind patterns.

"However, for the coming five days, there will be a dry weather condition prevailing and mainly low-level easterlies as well as south-westerlies are prevailing over the state," he said.

6.7°C in Adilabad is really something. We often think of North India when we talk about cold waves, but Telangana can get quite chilly too. Hope the authorities are keeping an eye on vulnerable populations in these districts.

Interesting to see the meteorological details about easterly winds causing this. The science behind weather patterns is fascinating. Dry conditions for the next five days means farmers need to be cautious with water resources.

Time to bring out the rajais and heaters! Perfect weather for a cup of garam chai. On a serious note, the list of 10 districts is useful. Sharing this with my family group so they're prepared.

While the forecast is detailed, I wish the IMD would provide these warnings in more regional languages and through simpler channels like SMS alerts. Not everyone checks news websites regularly.

The "winter chill effect" is real! My morning walk in Hyderabad outskirts was much colder today. Thanks for the heads-up for the 31st as well. Planning outdoor New Year's Eve celebrations might need a rethink.
