Lucknow, November 5

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday inaugurated flats constructed under the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Housing Scheme.

These flats were built on land reclaimed from the mafia in Lucknow. These flats would be given to 72 low-income families.

After inaugurating flats, CM Yogi said, "I am fortunate that on this day (Kartik Purnima), I am here in Lucknow at this event of allotment of houses built on a land freed from the encroachment of an infamous mafia."

He was speaking at the distribution of allotment letters for flats to 72 families from the weaker income group, who had built on land freed from mafia influence in Lucknow, as well as at the inauguration of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Residential Scheme.

Earlier in the day, CM Yogi took cognisance of the tragic train accident that occurred at Chunar Railway Station in Mirzapur district and directed officials to ensure immediate relief and proper treatment for the injured.

Expressing his deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, the Chief Minister termed the incident unfortunate and instructed officials to provide all possible assistance to the affected.

According to an official statement, CM Yogi directed senior officers to rush to the spot and expedite the ongoing relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister instructed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to reach the spot and expedite relief work. The Chief Minister directed that the injured receive proper treatment, as per an official release.

The tragic accident, which claimed the lives of at least four people, took place around 9:30 am on Wednesday at Chunar Railway Station. Preliminary reports suggest that the passengers got down from the train on the wrong side of the platform and attempted to cross the main line, despite a Foot Over Bridge being present.

Only 72 families? That's a very small number considering the housing needs in UP. Hope this is just the beginning and more such projects come up across the state.

The timing seems a bit insensitive - inaugurating houses while a train tragedy just happened. Shouldn't the focus be entirely on the accident victims right now?

Good to see the CM addressing both development work and emergency situations. The housing scheme is important work that shouldn't stop because of other events.

Naming it after Sardar Patel is perfect - he was the man who united India, and now his name is being used to provide shelter to the needy. 🇮🇳

The train accident is heartbreaking. Four lives lost because people weren't using the foot over bridge. We really need better safety awareness at railway stations.
