Bringing Bengaluru closer: Karnataka Dy CM DK Shivakumar on new Yellow line metro

Karnataka Dy CM DK Shivakumar praises the new Yellow Line metro in Bengaluru, set to be inaugurated by PM Modi, for faster connectivity in South Bengaluru.

"Bringing Bengaluru closer than ever with Namma Metro's Yellow Line! – DK Shivakumar"

Bengaluru, August 10

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday said that the new Yellow Line metro, to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will make travel faster by linking "key hubs" in South Bengaluru.

In his X post, DK Shivakumar wrote, "Bringing Bengaluru closer than ever with Namma Metro's Yellow Line! By seamlessly linking South Bengaluru's key hubs, the new Yellow Line will make travel faster, smoother, and more comfortable for lakhs of daily commuters, all while keeping our city moving sustainably into the future."

Meanwhile, preparations are ongoing near Ragigudda Metro Station, and Bellary Road has been decorated ahead of PM Modi's visit. Police personnel have been deployed at several locations to ensure security.

According to a press release, the Prime Minister on Sunday will inaugurate the Yellow Line from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra of the Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project, having a route length of over 19 km with 16 stations worth around Rs 7,160 crore.

With the opening of this yellow line, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will increase to over 96 km, serving a large population in the region.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project worth over Rs 15,610 crore. The total route length of the project will be more than 44 km with 31 elevated stations. This infrastructure project will address the growing transportation needs of the city, catering to residential, industrial, commercial and educational areas.

The Bengaluru metro is currently operated and maintained by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka.

PM Modi will also flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains from Bengaluru at 11 AM. It includes trains from Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune. These high-speed trains will significantly enhance regional connectivity, reduce travel time and provide a world-class travel experience to the passengers.

₹7,160 crore for 19 km seems excessive. While infrastructure is important, I wish our leaders would focus equally on fixing Bengaluru's terrible roads and drainage system. The metro is great but what about last-mile connectivity?

As a resident of Bommasandra, this is fantastic news! My daily commute to MG Road will now be under 45 minutes instead of 2 hours in traffic. Kudos to both state and central govt for working together on this project 🚇

The metro expansion is impressive but I hope they've considered women's safety aspects - proper lighting, CCTV cameras and women's coaches. Also need more feeder buses for areas beyond metro stations.

Phase 3 announcement is exciting but when will it be completed? We've seen so many delays in Phase 2. Bengaluru needs these projects completed on time to actually solve traffic problems. Action matters more than announcements!

The Vande Bharat trains are a great addition too! My parents in Belagavi will now be just 6 hours away instead of the whole day journey. Infrastructure development is finally catching up with Bengaluru's growth 💯
