Big defeat of Omar Abdullah's ideology: J-K LoP Sunil Sharma on BJP President Sat Sharma's victory in Rajya Sabha election

J-K LoP Sunil Sharma declares BJP's Rajya Sabha win a major ideological defeat for Omar Abdullah, criticizing vote consolidation on religious lines.

"The way Omar Abdullah tried to consolidate votes on religious and regional lines... is a big defeat of his ideology. - Sunil Sharma"

Srinagar, October 25

Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma termed National Conference's defeat in one Rajya Sabha seat a "big defeat for Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah's ideology."

Sunil Sharma's remark came after J-K BJP President Sat Sharma won with 32 votes, leaving NC's Imran Nabi Dar with 22 votes.

However, the ruling Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) won three Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) on Friday.

Hailing the BJP's victory, Sunil Sharma said, "It is a big victory of transparency. The way Omar Abdullah tried to consolidate votes on religious and regional lines, in the name of a particular community, is a big defeat of his ideology."

"The Abdullah family is very clever, and they have enslaved the people of J-K for the last three generations. They never seek votes in the name of infrastructure and development, but in the name of religion, caste, separatism, terrorism, and stone pelters," he added.

Earlier, BJP President Sat Sharma expressed gratitude to the top party leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his candidature.

Sharma told reporters, "Everyone has supported the BJP. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah ji, and BJP National President JP Nadda ji for my candidature for this Rajya Sabha seat. We have 28 members, but four others supported us by listening to their inner voices. Was it wrong on the part of four members to listen to their inner voice?"

All four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir have been vacant since February 2021, following the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Shamsher Singh, and Nazir Ahmed Laway.

Meanwhile, bypolls for the Nagrota and Budgam assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for November 11, following the demise of MLA Devender Singh Rana and Omar Abdullah's resignation, respectively.

While I support development politics, I wish both sides would focus more on actual governance achievements rather than just attacking each other. The people of J&K deserve better than this constant political drama.

Sunil Sharma is absolutely right! The Abdullahs have used emotional politics for decades. Glad to see BJP winning despite having fewer MLAs. Shows that good governance matters more than family legacy.

Interesting that NC still won 3 out of 4 seats though. The political landscape in J&K remains complex. Hope this leads to healthy competition and better outcomes for the people living there.

"Inner voice" supporting BJP? Sounds like horse-trading to me. Both parties should be transparent about how they got cross-voting. Democracy should be clean, not clever.

As someone from Jammu, I'm happy to see our region getting representation. For too long, Kashmir-centric politics dominated. This is a step toward balanced development across all regions of J&K. 🙏
