The UAE Parliamentary Division took part in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.

Parliamentary delegations discussed climate issues, artificial intelligence, peace and security, and institutional parliamentary cooperation.

During the discussion on "Parliamentary Cooperation for Responsible and Inclusive Artificial Intelligence", Sara Mohammad Falaknaz, FNC Member, stated that artificial intelligence represents a promising opportunity for achieving development and balanced growth.

She emphasised that its optimal investment requires sound governance, beginning with fair and equitable legislation. She stressed that technological advancement should not come at the expense of justice, privacy, and digital sovereignty, and highlighted the importance of considering ethical and human dimensions when developing relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

She pointed out that the United Arab Emirates was a pioneer in anticipating the technological future through pioneering initiatives--most notably, the appointment of the world's first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, the launch of the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031 aimed at enhancing government performance and achieving economic excellence through AI technologies, as well as the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

While AI development is exciting, we must ensure it doesn't create more inequality. As an Indian, I've seen how tech can leave rural areas behind. Ethical frameworks are crucial - UAE is right to focus on this. Hope BRICS nations work together on inclusive AI policies.

UAE investing in AI education through their new university is brilliant! Indian universities need to catch up fast. IITs should introduce specialized AI degrees rather than just computer science. The future is here!

Concerned about data privacy with AI expansion. UAE mentions digital sovereignty - India should be equally careful about foreign AI companies harvesting our data. Atmanirbhar Bharat should include AI development!

Good to see BRICS discussing AI cooperation. But India must ensure our interests are protected - we can't let China dominate AI standards through BRICS. Need balanced approach with strong Indian representation in these talks.

UAE's AI minister idea is innovative! India should consider creating similar specialized positions rather than having general tech ministers. AI needs focused attention at highest levels. Maybe Modi government can implement this in next cabinet reshuffle?
