"Our soldiers serve with dedication in challenging terrains. - Omar Abdullah"

Srinagar, July 26

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that more than 12,000 people have received help through various legal aid schemes of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority in 2025.

LG Sinha was speaking at the North Zone Regional Conference on "Reaffirming the Constitutional Vision of Justice for Defence Personnel and Tribals" held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

He said that apart from the poor, soldiers and tribal communities also deserve strong legal support.

"The Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority and the National Legal Services Authority have launched four new schemes... Many people are benefiting from this. If we look at the figures, more than 12,000 people have benefited from the various assistance schemes of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority in 2025. I believe that apart from the deprived sections, there are two other groups that need this, soldiers and members of the tribal community, who are part of our country, for whom whatever is done in terms of providing legal aid and ensuring justice is never enough," J-K LG Sinha said while addressing the conference.

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), in collaboration with the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) and Ladakh and the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, also launched the Veer Parivaar Sahayata Yojana 2025 at the conference.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who was also present at the momemt also praised the launch of the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, a new legal aid initiative for defence personnel.

Abdullah honoured the sacrifices of soldiers and said the scheme will help serving and retired soldiers deal with legal issues, especially since they often face challenges due to tough postings and distance from home.

Addressing the conference, Omar Abdullah said, "On the occasion of Vijay Diwas today, I would like to begin by remembering the services and sacrifices of our defence personnel... Our soldiers serve with dedication in challenging terrains."

"However, when they face legal challenges, whether related to service disputes, pension matters, or civilian complaints, they often encounter difficulties due to geographical distances, the dynamic nature of their deployments, and the specific constraints of military life... I appreciate the Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority for taking the initiative to amend the legal aid rules to include serving and retired defence personnel," Abdullah said.

Good step, but I hope the implementation is effective. Many schemes sound great on paper but don't reach the actual beneficiaries. The government should ensure proper awareness campaigns in rural areas too.

As someone from a military family, I can't tell you how important this is! My father faced so many pension issues after retirement. Finally some concrete help for our veers and their families 🙏

Interesting to see tribal communities being included in this initiative. India's diversity needs such inclusive policies. Hope this sets an example for other states!

The numbers look impressive but I wonder how many of these 12,000 beneficiaries are from remote areas? Often urban centers get most benefits while villages remain neglected.

Great initiative! But can we also have similar legal aid schemes for farmers? They face so many land dispute issues across the country.
