Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti has written to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the state government banned speeches and public meetings during her Ganga Samagra Yatra.
The state government banned speeches and public meetings during Uma's Ganga Samagra Yatra when it will pass through West Bengal.

Uma has reportedly asked Mamata to reconsider her decision on the matter.

"I had a strong belief that your party (Trinamool Congress) will actively participate in this holy cause rising above all restrictions," Uma wrote in her letter.

"Instead of that expected support, this yatra has been subjected to so many restrictions," she said.

She is scheduled to start the Ganga Samagra Yatra from West Bengal's Gangasagar area from Sept 21 and will end in Uttarkhand's Gangotri town on Oct 28.

The BJP leader will hold the yatra (tour) in demand of a heritage status for river Ganga, reports said.
