Consulting and Finance Sector Witness 50pc Offers at IIM Calcutta Placements

New Delhi, March 10: Within just two days of time, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has successfully placed its entire batch of more than 400 students. Consulting and Finance emerged as the two most sought after domains, with around 50pc of the offers belonging to these two areas.

More than 130 companies attended the placement process at one of India's finest business schools and made a total of 481 offers. Highest number of students got consulting roles, as 27% of the total offers were made by consulting firms. Consulting was followed by Finance, which constituted 23% of the total offers.
Accenture Strategy hired the highest number of students in consulting domain. Other prominent recruiters included, The Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Company, Mckinsey & Company along with AT Kearny. Last year, consulting was the second most sought after sector with 22% of the total offers.
The major finance companies that recruited high number of students included Bank of America, JP Morgan & Co, Merill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, IVFA and CitBank. Not to forget that IIM C is highly preferred for specialization in Finance. This sector was the largest recruiting sector last year as well, and a total of 29% of the offers were made by Finance companies last year.
Another major highlight of this year's placements was the first time recruiters from the campus. Bessemur Venture Partners, which is the oldest venture capital company in the United States, visited IIM C for the very first time.
Marketing was the third most preferred domain, which featured 16% of the offers, followed by General Management, which had 14% of the offers. Operations & Product Management had 12% offers, and IT & Analytics had 8%. Amazon, Aditya Birla Group, Star, EXL were the top recruiters in these categories. Other major recruiters participating in the institute's placements were Flipkart, Microsoft, Uber, Tata Administrative Services, Hindustan Unilever Limited and P&G.
The institute has not released the monetary or CTC related details yet. A detailed placement report is still awaited, which will showcase the specific information about the placements.
Earlier this year, IIM Calcutta
had made a significant jump in its global business school rankings. In Global MBA Rankings (2018) of The Financial Times London, IIM C improved by 17 places to reach at 78th rank, from 95th last year. The institute is ranked 3rd in the national business school rankings by NIRF.
