Global Leader in Musculoskeletal Care Hosts Training Seminar for Greek Surgeons
(7 months ago)
NEW YORK: Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) will host 16 surgeons from Greece for an annual seminar dedicated to teaching the latest techniques and innovations in complex primary total hip and knee replacement.
Initiated in 2006, the annual HSS Stavros Niarchos Foundation Orthopaedic Seminar Program consists of two days of didactic sessions, case consultations, roundtable discussions, hands-on workshops and operating room observation at HSS. Moderated by Michael Cross, MD, and Peter K. Sculco, MD, both hip and knee surgeons at HSS, this year's seminar will be held November 28 and 29th, and will focus on the diagnosis and treatment of complex primary hip and knee replacements.
The following three days will include attendance at the 29th Annual HSS Holiday Knee & Hip Course, a CME-accredited professional education course.
The program aims to immerse visiting Greek surgeons, with under 10 years of experience, in the high-volume joint replacement environment at HSS.
"This year's knee seminar includes a comprehensive overview of complex issues in primary knee replacement surgery. The goal of the didactic lectures and hands-on skills workshop is to provide our Greek surgeon colleagues with the surgical principles to manage these complex cases. The clinical experience of the world-renowned faculty is a major strength of this teaching program."
"Surgeons will leave with an understanding of the decision-making process that can only come from the combination of lectures, workshops, and operating room observation of a skilled surgical team."
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is one of the world's leading private international philanthropic organizations and has provided grants in the areas of healthcare as well as sports, arts and culture, education and social welfare.
Last year, HSS received a $925,000 grant from the Foundation that is supporting professional development programs, such as this, for Greece's orthopedic surgeons. HSS and the Foundation have had a longstanding relationship lasting over a decade.
"Our vision at HSS includes being the most trusted educator in the field of orthopedics," said Dr. Cross, hip session moderator. "This seminar offers hands-on training that the surgeons take directly back to Greece to be able to provide high-quality patient care for those needing joint replacements."
Over 30,000 surgeries are performed at HSS each year, with HSS physicians performing more hip surgeries and knee replacements than any other hospital in the United States. People travel to HSS for medical care from more than 100 countries.
