Trai slashes interconnect charges from 14 paise to 6 paise a minute from Oct 1

New Delhi , Sept. 19 : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Tuesday slashed the interconnect usage charge (IUC) from 14 paise minute to 6 paise per minute, which will become effective from October 1.

The termination charges will be completely scrapped from January 1, 2020.

"For mobile to mobile, termination charge has been reduced from 14 paisa per minute to 6 paisa per minute w.e.f. 1st October, 2017. From 1st January, 2020 onwards the termination charge for all types of domestic calls shall be zero," read the statement issued by the Trai.

Termination charge or ICU is a fee that a mobile service provider pays to another to link a call to the latter's network.
