Utkal train derailment: Northern Railway General Manager sent on leave, four officials suspended

Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh) , August 20 : In wake of the recent Utkal train derailment tragedy in Muzaffarnagar, which claimed 20 lives, the Government on Sunday suspended four railway officials and sent Northern Railway General Manager R.N. Kulshrestha on leave.

The authority also sent Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Delhi, Member of Engineering, Railway Board (secretary level) on leave and transferred Chief Track Engineer, Northern Railway.

Based on prima facie evidence, a junior engineer (permanent way), a senior section engineer (permanent way), an assistant engineer and a senior divisional engineer have been suspended, a railway ministry statement said.

Over 100 passengers have been injured and 20 are said to be dead in the unfortunate accident that took place yesterday near Muzaffarnagar.

The injured passengers have been admitted in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar hospitals.
